I was blowing off my front porch that's runs the width of my house Saturday and got bit on the ankle by a yellow jacket that came out of one of the weep holes where the brick meets the slab. I spayed an entire can of wasp spray in the hole and got a couple more that tried to fly out. Now this morning I see they're back. Is there something other than wasp spray I should use, and are yellow jackets like bees in that they build a nest in the wall? I don't know if there are 4 or 5 left in there or 100! Should I call an exterminator or can I kill them myself somehow? Don't want my kids to get stung one morning waiting on the school bus on the porch.

Id keep spraying. Seems like you would get them all eventually.

They make a paper nest and they are a PITA to get rid of. You could try to plug up the hole with something like putty at night or mix up some strong bug spray in a gallon pump sprayer, stick the nozzle in the hole and spray. Do that at night only too!

I had to use gas three times to rid a nest out of razor grass, but I don't think I would do that to my house.

Just plug the hole. They will all die.

Did some googling and saw the pics of nests in walls. Holy shite! I'm going to go to Lowe's today and try to find something I can mix in a sprayer to soak the hole down. I have some plumbers putty I can plug the hole with but I'd think they'll just use another weep hole if need be. I read they leave once it gets cold, but at this rate it'll be 85 degrees on Christmas and they'll never leave!

Wouldn't they just use another weep hole? There's one like every 4' or so.

Like I said, they are a PITA. And yes, the longer they are there, the bigger the nest becomes. I don't think they will leave once it gets cold due to heat coming from within the house and bricks soak up heat in the winter if sun hits it.

Cut your gas line behind the water heater. When it hits the pilot light on the stove it'll kill them all pretty good.

Get the kind that says Foam or Foaming on the can. Go at night and make sure to get the whole can in there.

I had the same problem, tried can after can of wasp spray at night then called my bug man. He came out and for $150 got rid of them and plugged the space between the bricks with a copper mesh pot scrubber torn in pieces. Later that year we remodeled and the nest was absolutely tremendous. I would have never gotten them all, just did not have the reach.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Yellow jackets were entering my walls where the A/C lines enter my brick. Used several cans of bug bombs, but I finally got rid of them all. I must have killed 500 of those bastards before the queen finally came crawling out. I haven't had a problem with them since.

I found some foaming wasp spray specifically for bees and yellow jackets. I also picked up 4 more cans of regular wasp spray. I'm going to give all that a shot tonight after they all go back into the hole. Hopefully it'll make em shite!

I was going to comment that they're "probably behind the bricks." Then I saw that bit and realized it was a waste of time.

I think they actually crawl in and out of the weep hole. I remember a powder of some type that would stick to their legs and be brought into the nest. I don't recall the name of it. It may be as simple as Sevin. I'll search.
