So more than likely I had some roundup residue in the sprayer I used? I used my neighbors backpack sprayer.

Weed Killer is your first mistake. Use a pre-emergent three times a year (Late February, early summer, and late Fall) and you won't have weeds. There are chemical brands or you can use corn gluten meal. Pre-emergents keep the seeds from germenating and you will not have to use harsh chemicals on your yard. Also works in flower beds. It will not work if the weeds are already there, but over time the weeds will go away.

Is Scott's the best fertilizer to use?? They say that you can spread the summer guard blend several times during the summer.

I live in houston and have been following a local guys schedule. We recently bought a new home and this schedule got our yard in shape pretty quick. Don't know much about the garden stuff he talks about (I like my local nursery on plant advice), but for general lawn care this is spot on.

What type of grass are you trying to get to grow? If it is Bermuda, let me know. I can make it happen for you. In the sugarcane fields, we cannot get rid of it. You can spray a light dose of Round -up on it and it will not kill it. As a matter of fact it acts like a fertilizer to an extent. Weed master or 24D is your friend when it comes to broadleaf (clover, dollargrass, crabgrass). Spray a pre emergent in Feb. and you will be set. Let me know if I can help.

Try baling it for hay and selling it and I bet it will start being easy to kill then.

Don't know how it happens but always does

In Florida, I would say you have Chinch bugs. I'm not sure if you have them in Louisiana or not.

Just the roundup dry residue in a sprayer can kill an entire yard?

Uh, no. That implies that the Roundup they sell is 10,000 times the required strength. Monsanto is not that generous. Last time I tried to kill a lawn it took two applications of full strength Roundup and even then was not completely successful. Sure, it doesn't help to have some Roundup residue but it's not going to kill your lawn.

You may want to hit your grass with some fungicide. Your lawn looks something like our St. Augustine did a couple of years ago in the spring. I treated it for Chinch Bugs for a couple of months before figuring out it was fungus and I lost most of it. Yours probably is not fungus but it's cheap insurance.

2,4D will cause some slight yellowing in St. Aug sometimes. You would have had to make it WAY too strong to do something like that I think.

Bad spot in my yard as such...went and got a few sacks of rich soil mix and raked it into the dead area and watered...helped it recover quickly

It's a herbicide that you apply prior to the weeds arrival (pre-emergent).
