I have had the seat in a lock on break. The harness caught me and I was able to get back in the stand and climb down.
I always wear a harness now.

Unless I'm in a shoot house I'm always strapped up. Not worth it.

A woman I work with has a son that fell 25 feet a couple weeks ago. Broke a couple vertebrae and had a stick go through his cheek. He's lucky as hell to be alive.

Does it have a lot of metal on it? I've got the older one and that's my only gripe. I always find a way to ding the lower buckles on something.

I used to as a kid before I had any responsibility or knowledge of my own mortality. I personally know 3 people close to my family who died falling from tree stands and another 2 who were severely disabled.
For less than $100 you can get a harness. Go to wal mart and stay safe

I'm so deathly afraid of heights that I put Prob 3 ratchet straps for every one I should. I also rarely go over 20' and like having so many limbs around me it's like getting a big bear hug from the tree while I'm in the stand. That might be why o have a false sense of security while I'm in the stand and don't wear one some times.

Agreed, its up there. I didn't normally go that high but there were a couple of times I wanted to see how high up I could go. 30 ft is scary

Id rather have one and not need it then not have one and need it. If you know what i mean. Equipment breaks all the time and half the stands today are probably made in China.

Ratchet strap your big monkey arse in that tree and be careful. A few beers before should calm you down.

A guy from work thats your size is in an icu now with broken pelvis, T12, and scapula. 20 ft fall. Waited on ground 4 hours for help. Its just not worth it. Get harness.

No, go buy a cheap stand at Walmart and use the cheap harness that comes with it. Then return stand if you don't want it.

Wow.

I will never hunt without a harness. Transferring into a lock on is also one of the more riskier parts of hunting from a stand.

That's what I would do.

I used Baker/Amaker when I was young and dumb, and survived. Now, after a few OleMan slips and the adrenaline shots that go with them, I always use a harnes.

Also, practice shooting an a downward angle if you're used to flatland shooting.

Started last year with a Muddy Safeguard. 1.9#, and can't tell it's there. Sat the other day without it on, and couldn't concentrate on hunting because all I could think about was that I didn't have my harness on. Was like forgetting my wallet. Felt weird.

NO. Take it from someone who has fallen out of stand I'm lucky I wasn't hurt bad. I was only 12 foot up in a climber when I fell. Please wear one. Not worth the risk.

All this talk of no harnass is ridiculous. I don't get in a tree without one. Spend a hundred bucks, buy a HHS. They're low profile and comfortable. Hunting without one is dumb

Many years ago when I first started bow hunting, I always used home made lock on stands. Used spars to climb a tree and had a rope that was 30' long. That was were I would mount the stand. Problem was, I never wore a harness. Didn't have one. Looking back, one of the dumbest things I did in my life time.

I don't bow hunt anymore, but my daughter does and I told her it's a must. She is 33 years old and does.
