Why aren't "coastal" bass boats more popular?

I dont know if ive personally seen one. Went fresh water fishing this weekend and always liked the layout of bass boats for storage. Just a fan of how everything has it's place and there's tons of fishing space. Seems like it'd be a decent option to get the coastal model for those who are in that fresh/brackish/inshore area. You know those boats can take a chop when they are known to cross big lakes. I think I personally would probably never get one as I pretty much always fish salt. But so many do both, yet I never see them.
Not going to lie, id fish this boat over a lot of pure saltwater boats

My guess would be center consoles can fit and fish 4-5 people comfortably. That model not so much.

Gunwales on bass boats are too low for open water

That boat looks awesome and would work well for a lot of people in LA. my guess would be cost and fear of lost value on resale.

That boat also looks heavy as all can be, anyone that is looking to drop that kind of coin on a bass boat wants to go fast.
Also, no way I'd take that boat offshore even in 1-2s. Bay boats have no issues going offshore even in 1-3s if you take it slow.

I'm not expecting it to take the place of 24' bay boats constantly making trips to the islands or something. But for those who may have a bass boat and an 18' express to fish saltwater inshore. Again, big lakes get a nasty chop all the time. People still fish tournaments in those conditions.
In terms of people, I could easily fish 4 out of a bass boat. Now seating for 4 to ride is different. Could do 3 easy.
Just as with salt, you will make sacrifices in fresh, but get decent fishing for both. I bet that boat goes 55-60. Probably faster with a 350 shown in the pic. Won't go offshore, but neither will a lot of mid sized bay boats (or at least I wouldnt).

Choppy open water is much more comfortable standing up as opposed to sitting down

I think that boat is awesome and could fish way more people that a CC of the same size. I went with an Xpress H22 side console with the large front deck rather than the H22B CC model. So much open space. No carpet and I use that thing for bass, perch, reds, trout, crabbing, and shrimping. Always surprises me that we get a lot of compliments fishing saltwater in that thing.
Only bad thing is your eye level is low and close to the water. Sometimes you need to be as high above the waterline as possible to watch for floating obstructions.
The gunwhale thing doesn't make sense because look at Haynies with absolutely no sides. I know tons of guides who run them across big lakes, including Big Lake.

You'd get serious wet arse in a cross wind with a side console

Look at the deck sizes and layouts of cc's. It's a trend that is well under way

That boat will do 75-80. I have a 19'6" bass boat with a 200 and my top speed is 71.
As long as you stay inshore it would work great. I'm sure just the versatility of a bayboat's ability to go a little ways offshore would discourage many from buying the saltwater bass boat.

I think they didn't catch on because:
price was always high
they squat out the hole
no room for a large ice chest
people like to stand in rough water
most don't need to do 75 mph in salt
no sharp bow entry and less flare for spray
No trim tabs
no hard top option

Buddy of mine had a Champion Bass n Bay when they first came out, it would run but also had many draw backs for bay fishing. Lay out was only good for 3 people max, low free board would result in water coming over the sides when anchored sideways, cross wind would soak you, and the biggest thing in our area was how much it would draft.

This this and this.
I used to want a flats style boat for the same reasons....they look just like the one you pictured. Then I got my arse beat and soaked in one coming home across Big Lake after the wind picked up. Said F that.
