re: Help Training my Pointer

Posted by Becasse on 12/22/14 at 1:40 pm
I have absolutely zero experience with training pointers. Picking my girl up Dec. 30th then the fun will begin. I'm just curious if there are any groups down in south Louisiana that are into bird hunting and training pointers. I'm located in Slidell, but willing to trave
What d...
We are gonna launch at the north n nature road in lake Arthur and hunt the northern portion of the pool. I'm telling you we are blind to all of the Lacassine Refuge. Hunted and leased near there for years but never fished or hunted or boated on the refuge. This will be the first time a...

Find something wet and thick. I don't hunt there anymore so I can't help you out on specific spots. The areas that people will clue you in on will be community holes that get lots of pressure so don't be surprised if you go where somebody recommends and don't kill much. Woodcock like old ag fiel...

re: What do I need to know about a GSP?

Posted by Becasse on 12/16/14 at 9:53 am
not entirely true. GSP's/GWP's are bred to be more versatile than other true pointing breeds. I took mine out a couple of weeks ago. We didnt have any ducks come in but he sat next to me the entire time and didn't move
To the original poster: I would take the "versatile breeding...
The letter seems hugely misguided. What do they want the kids to pursue instead? Law? Medicine? Liberal arts?
A&M is just being upfront with their students, and I guarantee you the clowns at LSU PETE would not have the foresight to do this. Great post, seems like everyone coming...

CENLA Guys

Posted by Becasse on 1/27/14 at 1:48 pm
Have a couple questions about a few clubs that are primarily deer hunters in the Old River (Morganza) area if any of you CENLA guys are familiar with area and wouldn't mind exchanging an email or two. I am not a deer hunter for what its worth and have zero interest in shooting deer. I'll post my...

Good luck tomorrow I'll be out there looking for them with the four legged demons. Have a "hunch" on where a few swamp bats may be sitting. Nice looking dogs by the way, may cross paths with you at some point. If I'm correct with where I believe a handful of those pics are taken we may frequent t...

re: Woodcock hunting in Sherburne WMA

Posted by Becasse on 12/11/13 at 2:15 pm
Judging from your name, I guess you must hunt Woodcock a bit. Where are other areas that hold this bird that are open to public?
If I was you, I wouldn't fool with cutovers, as they are by far the most pressured cover on a given WMA. Think outside the box, plenty of areas to your d...

re: Woodcock hunting in Sherburne WMA

Posted by Becasse on 12/11/13 at 12:24 pm
It is crowded, no doubt about it. Sherburne used to be the place but has gone downhill some with the habitat progression of many of the bird holding areas. With that being said, there are birds to be killed there at times. Have to think outside of the box though. Woodcock can stack up in very small ...

re: Where can I find 16g steel shot?

Posted by Becasse on 12/8/13 at 1:44 pm
Its to bad that the 16 gauge has fallen from popularity. It really is a nice gauge suited for many types of hunting. If lead shot was still legal I have an older Ithaca 37 that would be the only firearm I carried on wingshooting ventures....

re: Boeuf River WMA- any pointers?

Posted by Becasse on 12/6/13 at 2:08 pm
FAT NECK Shut the hell up about public land. Every time you mention the name of a WMA people are going to research it and possibly show up to the area while YOU continue to bitch about public lands being overcrowded. Take your shite back to Louisiana Sportsman forums...
Speaking of mud bats, just had one fly over my car...
In broad daylight? very odd...good sign though. Little bit of rain coming through ought to help out a good number of the areas we hunt. Frozen ground up north won't hurt at all either :pimp:...
Or are they all in Webster Parish? I was riding back to the camp and the damn things were about every twenty feet in the mud puddles. Got to where I was trying to hit one just to see how long they'd stay locked up. They'd always bust just right before I could get up to them. Never seen th...
I will go out on a limb and say where the ducks were seen is the portion of the refuge that can't be hunted.
That damn millet field will be full to the brim with greenheads if we keep getting those periodic rains. Never really have seen any number of them drop in across the road ...
