It appears that's what you're doing. Fun fact, I'm not in school to be an engineer, I am one.

And I'm just a redneck who went to college to lose the accent and learn to conduct research. If my terminology was correct, I'd have to thank my highschool physics teacher.

All I know Hammer, is that proper equipment used correctly means the recovery happens safely.

There's a video on the OB somewhere of me pulling a light truck out of a field of soft wet grass with a sub 3000lb 4x4 with bungees. This is after a duramax 4x4 tried to tow him with chains.

I don't science but I believe I've heard them called kinetic energy straps as well.

Linky? Would like to see what this bungee pulling you speak of looks like.

As an engineer, I'm sure that you know many of the technical things he said were wrong such as F=mv. In reality F=ma, so the premise of the ranger providing the same force as the diesel because it can somehow get to double the speed is inaccurate. I highly doubt that the ranger can accelerate twice as fast making that point invalid.

-Signed fellow engineer..

Although Rando is on the right track by suggesting to lift and use the bungee straps to lower the impact loading on each vehicle.

Well, there is the better than average possibility that he's mentally handicapped, so...

Equal rights.

I'd still like to see him get a throat punch either way.

Can someone go set up a "Live" Trail Camera (like Lee and Tiffany's Crush Cam) out there.

I'm sure we could have endless threads like this one.

I don't really agree with this. While his technical description was not exactly correct, I could see the Ranger accelerating twice as fast. If the diesel trucks are sinking, their horizontal acceleration isn't going to be much of anything. In that scenario, the Ranger wouldn't have to do much to double the acceleration. There's really too many unknowns to definitely say without going out there and measuring, and even then you only have an answer for that exact set of conditions.

But for Hammertime to just dismiss it and try and pull the physics/dynamics card just because he's in school, he needed to be taken down a peg.

While I completely understand the importance of velocity, my problem with that was the speed of both vehicles (100% difference) before the yank. Im not doing the math on my phone, but if that gap was closed to 75%, we'd have a different situation. My thinking behind that is turbo lag would keep the diesel from ripping arse off the line, and the length of the strap also has a big effect. Obviously longer would close the velocity gap.

I haven't driven a newer Cummins, so I don't know how they lag. All of the diesels I have driven take off easily and then haul arse when the turbo spools up. That would allow the truck to start moving instead of just digging in as soon as the pedal was pressed

You want it, come get it. I'll let you punch me in the throat once and we'll see what happens from there. I'm in Metairie right now, and will be in New Orleans later today. If you want to do it, come do it. Otherwise, quit wasting your time talking shite

I understand why you did it that, but I have fallen into your trap many times. I also woke up about 15 minutes before that post, so I didn't feel like 1) thinking about all of the factors, 2) correcting the wrong terminology, and 3) explaining it all

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the Leprechaun. Put your panties in your purse and stop wearing your feelings on your sleeve. Nobody wants to punch you.
