He gets on to me for shooting does and says that I'm killing two deer if I kill a doe I'm killing her and her offspring for next year.. I kill mabe 2 does a year one with my bow and one with 444 the rest the year I hunt horns.. I hunt piney woods so there arnt that many opertunities for rack bucks.. What do u do about this

I shoot plenty of does. I only shoot bucks 8 point bucks or larger and they have to be outside the ears unless the antlers are unusually tall. Read this site for more info. QDMA management tips

We have some people to the north and south of us that will shoot any and everything. Then to the east of us is a lake that is let down and another group of a@@holes rides their 4 wheelers dusk till dawn. We still only shoot 8 points or better.

Years ago in Union Pa. we had a hunting club, 3000 acres next to our 296 acres. I had talked to them about management and everyone agreed we would abide by recommended rules to raise bigger bucks. I can't tell you how many young bucks we passed on the next 4-5 years. Never saw any change in racks. I had to go next door to talk to the prez of the club who was a retired state trooper and was told he was tracking a 4 pt. They laughed when I said I thought we were saving those. Actual quote. Between giggles: " Yeah, yall save em we shoot em. "
Pissed, I shot the next 4 pt I saw and still hate I did it. 15 years later.

Your neighbor sounds old. You have to remember these people grew up in a time when there were VERY few deer. It's next to impossible to get them to shoot "the goose that lays the golden egg."

He'll probably be dead soon. We had a neighbor like that up until 2 years ago. Then he finally kicked the bucket.

All you can do is improve the habitat on your property, limit the pressure and hope one day you hold the big boys

Yep. Only old hunters think this way. Things are different now and it only helps hunters in the south to shoot does on the reg. Otherwise you get a skewed population of does to bucks at 15:1 or more = no selection pressure for bucks = quality bucks and weak ones passing their genes on.

My FILs lease is this way in Olla, they will shoot WHATEVER they see that resembles a deer. He gets mad when I tell him I wont join because of $hitty management. You most likely wont change the guys mindset, just keep inmind that whatever you let walk, he is most likely to shoot. Its a $hitty way to think but its true. High fencing is basically your only option at this point

Yep

He gets on to me for shooting does

All this depends on the deer herd. He might not see any does and blames you.

Washington parish

I have a small place up there. Hunted it for the last 4 years. All woods connecting to my property are private land (people's back yards) and these people shoot anything. Ive let some small 4's go and got one 2 years later as a 6 pt. Never saw the other 4 again. Needless to say, im not hunting there anymore.

Although, the lease i joined behind my house in Lafourche/Terrebone parish is no better with the small deer issue. This is a cheap/convenience lease. One day ill join a quality lease in north la/miss.

Firstly, high fences should be outlawed. Secondly, shoot everything you see and maybe your neighbor will quit when he quits seeing deer. Seriously, I think everyone that hunts deals with this, the hair comes with the hide as they say. Try and enjoy yourself.

I live there and the mindset on deer hunting terrible in my opinion. I stopped hunting there a long time ago.I really the Wildlife and Fisheries would install some sort of antler restrictions. I know that's not popular with everyone, especially with the brown it's down crew.
