So I'm picking up a new lease tomorrow. My wife got a new vehicle last summer. We kept her 2006 Mercedes C280 (sedan) as an extra vehicle. It has 193,500 miles. I currently drive a 2007 Toyota RAV4 (SUV) with 191000 miles.

KBB says I can get about $1730 for her vehicle and $5300 for mine.

I did not realize this, but people say that German cars don't keep their value past 5 years. SUV is obviously more useful. Toyota requires more frequent maintenance and oil changes. Both vehicles still run well. Ultimately, I don't anticipate needing to haul anything that can fit in the RAV4 that we won't be able to fit in our new vehicles.

Sell the Mercedes. The Rav4 will be cheaper to maintain by far.

Ditch them both.

If I kept one, it would be the Benz. I just can't picture a situation where I don't take the opportunity to get rid of a Rav-4.

Most repairs should be cheaper on the Toyota

And yes, Mercedes and BMW are terrible for resale.

The RAV4 will be higher by about $300 per 6 months, but I should price it with progressive, which is what the Mercedes is through. The Mercedes is ridiculously cheap at $83 per 6 months

Did you see the part about both vehicles approaching 200,000 miles?

I think that was an attempt at subtle humor.

Most people don't have a use for something as small as a RAV4. If it was me, I'd get rid of both

The Mercedes has lost 95% of its value in 10 years. And I would keep the Rav4, more practical, useful, reliable.

Sell both.

But I can tell you....there is,no way in hell I would pay $5000 for a vehicle with 191,000 miles on it. Hope you get a fair price on it.

Right? I'm thinking of selling the RAV4 based on that. The Mercedes has already lost so much value, there's not much more for it to lose. However, someone told me that they've never seen a German car with that many miles on it before, which worries me if we're keeping it as a spare vehicle,

There is really only one market for a used Mercedes.

Before I can answer, I need to know if the Rav4 has the ability to open the back with your foot...

what is the new vehicle? that may make a difference in what you should keep.

Real answer is you keep the one your wife wants to drive. I'm assuming from your post that the new vehicle for you. - actually it doesn't matter. If the new car is yours, you will be getting another one for your wife soon anyway so just trade them both then.

Truth. Mercedes and BMW have terrible resale values. I can buy 500 series Beemers at auction for very cheap.
