What shoud I do about cracked Browning stock

I have a Browning X-Bolt White Gold Medallion rifle in .280. I noticed I have a hairline crack going from the tang safety area down to the where the magazine comes out of rifle. I'm guessing this came from when I dropped the rifle 20' from my climber. I sent the gun off to Browning and they said all they can do is replace the stock for $590. Just wondering if I have any other options. I would imagine the crack will get bigger the more rounds I fire through it. TIA for any suggestions. Will check back later as I'm at work.

Search for new stock on Ebay, or try and fix your stock.

Maybe boyds makes a stock for it?

take the stock off and use a two part epoxy and force it into the crack as deep as you can.
Put it in clamps for 24 hours. You will need to sand and touch up the finish or completely refinish.

Just get a new stock. They are like $100 or something.

I'd go this route. I've got a stock from them and like it.

Want to add character?
Put a good coat of rubber cement and a drywall screw through the cracks. Tell your grandkids you broke it on a deers head after you left your spare boolits in the truck.

My pawpaw's old Remington pump 22 has a crack on the butt of the gun that he said happened when he had to finish a squirrel off years ago that was still kicking.
I wonder now if he just dropped it from a tree and lied to me all these years.

I am also interested. I have a Browning X bolt in 7mm Rem Mag. I never dropped the gun but I do have cracks on either side of the stock coming from near the safety area.

It was broken before the stock broke.
All kidding aside, just buy an aftermarket stock that is made for the gun.

Know of where they sell them?

You wanna save some $$ or spend some $$? You've basically got 2 choices:
1. Buy a replacement stock (from wherever you want, spending however much you want to).
2. Repair the stock yourself. Unless you want to spend a couple $$$s there's nothing to be lost from repairing it yourself (as long as you have a second gun for backup in case your repair fails during hunting season).
I had the same dilemma a few years ago. I bought online an XP-100 that had an HS Precision synthetic stock. Enroute, Fed Ex nearly fractured off the bottom of the grip. HS Precision offered to repair it for $100. Even then, the repair couldn't be guaranteed. Brand new stock would be $400 w/ a 6 month wait. I decided to try it myself. I used a 2 part epoxy that had a slightly "runny" consistency. I drilled small holes at the end of the cracks. I pried the parts apart a little, heated the epoxy (so it'd be "runnier") and let it seep into the crack. I applied isometric bands and left it in place 48 hours. I've not had anymore problems w/ it. I later completely repainted the stock. Fed Ex eventually got it straightened out and paid me $400.
ETA: Acraglass would be excellent. I didn't use it because it's expensive, thick and wasn't available in small quantity. Placing a dowel or screw through the crack might help stabilize it also. I couldn't do that on my stock because there wasn't much stock to work w/. The price Browning quoted you is too expensive. For a replacement stock, look for an aftermarket stock or a used factory Browning stock. If you can find a Browning forum, someone might want to sell a used take off stock.

Is your current stock wood, laminated or synthetic? What type of material do you want for the replacement stock?

Buy one from Boyd's

Sounds like the perfect excuse to build a custom gun...

Thanks guys, think I'll look into Boyd's.

That's what I would do. I have a few rifles I plan to drop into one of there stocks.

This looks like a good opportunity to buy a New Riffle. There are many justifications you can use to tell the spouse, if needed, and later you can always get the new stock.
Tika liquidation sale thread is on the first page :)
