This is why you don't believe everything you see on the internet. The brain case is smaller on Gorillas than it is on Humans because they have a smaller brain. I'm sure you could measure from one point on the skull to the brain and get 9". But that's like saying an 8FT 2x4 is 8FT thick.

To hijack a bit -
My cousin in the mountains of BC carries a 44 pistol for bears when he is back country trekking. When they are back country snowmobiling he has a pump shotgun on his sled (home defense model w/ buckshot in chamber than slugs after that), that is his preferred firearm but too heavy to carry when trekking. Bears aren’t too much of an issue in the winter when they are sledding (they are hibernating), between avalanches, bears, cougars etc there are lots of things out there that can kill you. I know when I have worked in the arctic or out west the “wildlife monitor” aka the guy w/ the gun is my new BFF

I can't believe any of you would doubt data that's available on the internet.

But for you doubters, add this info -- I've been married to a silverback gorilla for several decades. (She's a bit larger than the average female -- close to 530 pounds. But she put on much of that weight before the sex change operation.)

But back to the pertinent stuff. She is particularly hard headed, so her skull thickness may be atypical. Based on the CT scans that were done when we were trying to figure out just how many emotional disorders she was suffering from, her skull thickness was determined to be almost exactly 12" (which equals one yard in Mississippi).

So 9" for the average gorilla is certainly believable (to me).

p.s. We're working on teaching her to walk without dragging her knuckles. It really scares the neighbors.

Kinda doubt that one.

I see several references on Google saying a gorilla skull is 9" thick. Even if these statements are off by a factor of two, those are still awfully thick skulls.

Guarantee I can kill a gorilla with a .22

.460 S&W. Kind of large for a carry gun but highly effective with a 390 grain flat tipped bullet.

I find that believable, depending on how one's defining/measuring skull thickness. I suspect whoever made the original quote is measuring the total depth of the skull from front to back (adding the totals of the thickness of front part of skull bone, brain cavity and thickness of rear part of the skull bone), not the thickness of a single area of one side of the skull bone.

All I saw on an early interview was a guy saying he heard the shot and it sounded like a high powered rifle.

Not sure if the guy knows the difference between a BB gun or a 308.

most people can't shoot a sidearm effectively enough to defend themselves in an attack.
