What caliber did they use to shoot the gorilla?

Any guesses? I did a search but I can't seem to find it. I imagine it was a 308 and it had to be a perfect shot to drop a 400lb gorilla.

CCW for gorilla

Would you have used your ccw? I know I would have and I would have been aiming high.

More importantly, how nervous was the shooter knowing the child was right under the gorilla.

All I saw on an early interview was a guy saying he heard the shot and it sounded like a high powered rifle.

Not sure if the guy knows the difference between a BB gun or a 308.

Imagine the outcry if the gorilla fell on the kid crushing him after he was shot.

Just got this(.50 sw mag) for a customer in Alaska. He is a pro dog sled racer and breeder. Have to carry to protect against grizzlies and moose. if it can take them down, I'd say a gorilla is about the same

They said this was a reason for the non use of tranquilizers as well

30-06 rifle
2 375 rifles
12ga shotgun

Saw an article and that's what was listed. Think they have a bigger rifle stored near the elephants.

I think a slug to the dome from a .223 on up would be enough to drop a gorilla instantly.

I imagine that the zoo staff will discuss what they used and where he was shot with other zoos for informational purposes.

I'd want more than a .375 for shooting a loose elephant

Would be a cool gig to be the Zoo's resident loose animal hunter. Mandatory practices to stay sharp and stuff.

I think they have a bigger gun for the elephants. Just can't remember what it was.

I can almost guarantee that the members of the Dangerous Animal Response Team are also members of the husbandry staff, your first-responder, and life support.

If it was anyone from the OB shooting the gorilla, it would have been a Tikka T3 chambered in 7mm-08.

Kinda doubt that one.

I see several references on Google saying a gorilla skull is 9" thick. Even if these statements are off by a factor of two, those are still awfully thick skulls.

9"??

That seems a little exaggerated.

I'm sure just the impact from any high caliber rifle to the cranium would kill or render the animal unconscious almost instantly.
