In Venice now. Shot a 4 man limit this morning, all greys. Don't think we've ever done that before.

I think the only thing keeping the hunters from overrunning the place is that the Mississippi is big, foggy and dangerous. Dead hunters get pulled out of that river every year and people know it. That particular part of the river sees more big boat traffic than any other body of water in North America.

I completely agree, shite can go south very quickly there. The wind can change around, blow the fog in, and in a matter of minutes you can't see the decoys in front of you. I had some friends that made a hunt and got trapped on the other side of the river for a whole day until they managed to flag down a crew boat that guided them down the river. They called the coast guard and were basically told that the fog was too bad for them to go out and get them.

thinking about this: I work for a marine transportation company. We have vessels that work out of Venice. Had some crew members at the office last week for a Christmas gathering. Asked them if they've been seeing ducks - they laughed, and said that duck hunters are crazy. Said running the Baptiste, with zero visibility and get passed up by a guy in a surface drive. The wonder how more people aren't killed down there. Takes a brave one to cross the river in that fog. I know I wouldn't do it. Hell, I hate running in the intracoastal in bayou black when it's foggy.

The big thing is its a very hard hunt most of the time. That keeps a lot of people away in itself. The river is a whole different ballgame. We are due for an accident with all the surface drives running downriver and also running in the fog. People just don't realize how bad that fog can be even with instrumentation AND radar. The moment u don't respect Venice or u let your guard down u are done.

A question for you guys who run tugs or crew boats on the river. Can you see surface drives on your radar when you're in the river? I've always wondered if they could see smaller boats

All of the people naming places in Venice in this thread will be the same ones bitching when there's more ducks than people down there. People can't just shoot ducks and be happy, they have to brag about it on the Internet

What the frick are you talking about? Birds are everywhere. GTFO.

I run radar on my CC. I can see them on it but depending upon the chop they come in and out. I have lost one before that I knew was there. However I feel for the most part they are visible.

I would venture to say 99% of the people in this thread agree with me that naming places where your been hunting on public land is absolutely asinine.

Agree with you 100%. I don't consider BC secret though it's so close I let everyone have it and so I guess I don't mind it being talked about....

Hunted the last two days and did well. There a a good number of ducks down there but I wouldn't say it is the most I've seen in the last two decades. I used to kill ducks easy everywhere (southwest pass, south pass, pass a loutre, etc) 20-25 years ago You just can't setup and expect to kill easy limits. Still have to scout and find where the birds are flying.

Lot of pintails and canvas back. Have to really watch what you are shooting now. Took a while to weed through the pintails and canvas back to get my limit today. Grays and widgeons flew late for me today.

Is it really asinine? You could go anywhere in venice and shoot Ducks today. You're being a bit dramatic. If I do well in in area I share it with the ob. It's not bragging, just a report. I don't name specific place but areas. Not sure what your problem is but you can go suck a dick.

Yes, it is asinine. If you need me to define it for you I'll be glad too. And no I'm not being dramatic, as I stated, I can guarantee you most people agree with me. And I'll leave the dick sucking to you, but thanks for the offer.

It's a huge place. It's no secret it's good. It's not like everyone can just up and head there tomorrow. He's fine

Exactly, saying BC, pass a loutre or delta duck isnt really giving out spots. Everybody who hunts venice knows those spots. Those who dont arent going to just come down and stumble upon the great holes with easy limits.

Are you mad I gave up your secret spot? I hope so because I'm not going there tomorrow. You're bring a self righteous prick. Anyone on this board that knows me knows that I'm willing to share info where I can.

So far you've had one person agree with you. That's a far cry from 99%. By the way I had friends that were successful in south pass, grand pass, pass a loutre, sw pass, red pass, buras, etc.

Hope I didn't give away the farm fricker.

But by talking up Venice and naming certain areas, all people think is "Venice = easy limits of ducks." So more people start hunting causing pressure on the ducks and pretty soon someone is going to find your magic spot and you're going to come to the OB and start a thread entitled "some bastard was in my spot this morning." Catch my drift?
