the land loss started in 1906 when the Corps of engineers dammed off the Bayou Lafourch entrance from the Mississippi River . Within 5 years salt water intrusion had backed up the bayou as far as the sugar mill at raceland. In the 1960 period there were dead oak trees along the road all the...

Thanks for all the comments. Just to be clear, I agree that commercial fishing is much more "harmful" than recreational. I worked on trawl boats with my uncle growing up and have seen first hand the by-catch that is discarded. The amount of small flounders (just one example) that were caught and kil...
Bow fishing definitely cant be good for the population but it is peanuts compared to the pogie fishery. their bycatch is nothing but bull reds. damn shame
I would agree with this. Back to a point I made earlier tho, is any fishing, rod and reel or bow, good for the population? ...
So the idea is to spotlight reds in shallow water at night and shoot them with a bow? Where's the sport in that? Just go shoot paper targets and leave the reds alone. At least with live bait and artificial lures there's a bit more even playing field. Plus, you can catch and release. ...
There are plenty of fish other than reds that can be shot with a bow; sheeps head, black drum, flounder, carp, buffalo. May not be as sexy but i would rather fry a head than red.
No argument there, and I agree on the sheepshead being preferable, and also think flounder is as well as ...
You are part of the problem. Congrats! The steam against bow fishing in Louisiana is picking up steam and it’s glorious.
You're right, in a few years they will outlaw it, that's why I believe they instituted the bowfishing permit. They are trying to have a paper trail before outlawin...
When you make a good point the OB can't make a rebuttal on, they just downvote you
I see that. If anyone has Google earth pro or a similar mapping system, you can go back in time and watch the land disappear in southeast LA. I know go-devils were first, but Gatortails were founded...
No. None of those are comparable to destroying marsh.
So if that's the argument, which seems to keep changing, then wouldn't banning airboats be a better option? Or ban surface drives all together? What's stopping people from driving around in them during the day destroying marsh, or...

I guess we can agree to disagree about the bow fishing limit being a sure thing. While most of my trips end up resulting in limits, that is mostly due to knowing conditions, tide, wind, etc. When conditions aren't right, it can be difficult to shoot fish. Or maybe I just suck, who knows. As for ...
That's a terrible argument. I've been bowfishing before. Limits are a sure thing if you don't suck, the marsh destruction going on is ridiculous, undersized fish get shot
You also didn't really explain how what he said was a terrible argument. He made two valid points and you didn't...
Thanks for your perspective.
Same to you, I admittingly don't fish the venice area as much as Grand Isle/leeville area, and the two fisheries, although similar, are also very different. ...
Who makes that argument? Whoever does is irrational.
I have seen it mentioned on the OB as a main issue over the years, I'm sure I could search and find people mentioning it but you are correct, the people that make that argument are irrational and probably in the minority. I won't a...
#1 buck is pretty safe at night or so I’ve been told.
Agreed, which goes back to the fact that deer are naturally nocturnal and I haven't read anything saying redfish are, so comparing the two don't make a lot of sense to me. ...
Yeah, I highly doubt you could take me anyplace where I will catch 35 to 40-inch redfish all day long.
I would agree with this. But I know guides in the lafitte area that absolutely hammer the redfish taking out clients twice a day 6 or 7 days a week pretty much all year long....
I don't get how nighttime bow fishing is any different from shining for deer. It's the proverbial shooting fish in a barrel.
I think there are a few differences here. One is deer are naturally nocturnal, whereas redfish are not, they are more influenced by tides. And yes I know deer...

They're fixing to drag you, but I share the same observations as you and agree. I also don't really have a problem with them lowering the limit to 4 or even 3. I just think the bowfishing argument as the main issue here is wrong. Let the downvotes commence....
