Anybody hunted the last couple days? How are the birds with the high water?

I was planning on heading down there tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning but now I'm debating staying and hunting closer to the house because of the water.

I'd be more worried with the weather forecasted for Friday and Saturday.

I was planning on staying through the weekend regardless. Not just hunting one day. Saturday and Sunday look fine. Friday could be fine too so long as it's just some rain and not thunderstorms.

Killed 5 Saturday and 13 Sunday by 3 hunters on west side of the river (high winds = no crossing in mud boat). 6 divers on Sunday, rest good ducks.

Was tough to get them in the dekes. Vast majority of the birds were killed at 25+ yds.

The weirdest thing to me about the whole thing tho was the lack of GWT. We killed one single on Sunday but saw very few other teal. Killed two blue winged teal Saturday out of a flock of 7, but that's not exactly uncommon even this time of yr. Normally the GWT are all over the place tho and help round out our limits. Where dey go to?? I'd be happy to have those tasty frickers back.

Guess I should've said wind. Looks like it will be 20-30 Friday and 20-25 saturday. If you're going in a good boat and camping you'll be fine.

Too many places for them to lay up I guess. Up until this week it's been like that around my area for most of the season, save a couple hunts.

That's what I'm really concerned with. I had made plans last week to go down, but the water situation has me thinking it might not be worth it now.

28 Reno and staying at a camp. We'll be good/we're not idiots like some down there haha.

Man we have killed very few teal in general this year. I haven't even seen a teal in probably 3 hunts, which is very weird for us. We killed some GWT first split and a few this split, but hardly any BWT.

Lots of cans and red heads. Seeing less grays but it's still worth the trip.

Hammer you know where I'd be going. You definitely think it's still worth it?

My area has really turned on in the last week so I'm hesitant to make a trip somewhere else.

Just got back from Venice, all the Reds and cans you want. The greys have gotten thin. Actually if your area is good I wouldn't make the trip

I just talked to my friends down there. I'm just gonna stay and hunt up here. They're saying the same things.

Some guys I know from high school camped out and hit them hard all weekend. Looks like they did great.

Down river is tough right now. Took us from daylight to noon to scratch out 23 ducks for the 5 of us. Tomorrow looks worse. No feed anywhere and just a handful of ducks. We have done a lot of riding. Hoping this front pushes them down or Friday and Saturday is going to be slow down here.

I hunted 2 weeks ago and it seemed like the ducks spread out with the high river. I wouldn't say there is no feed but the high river has probably changed their normal feeding grounds down there.

Fwiw, it was slower for me 2 weeks ago than normal.

It's my opinion that the gray duck vanished from the first split ending to second split opening. We have seen some but not near the numbers we were seeing first split. Also seeing a lot less poule d'eau while hunting and not much feed. Not sure if it was eaten out or what.

One thing for certain there is no shortage of cans, redheads and black and white ducks. I'll be hunting next three days I'll let ya'll know how we do.
