And most deer hit by cars are does. I think the original argument is people let does walk but kill 1.5 year old bucks.

While I understand the trophy mentality, I'm one of them, if not watched it will ruin hunting. The happiest I've been with a deer in the last 5 years was the button buck my 10 year old shot this year. The proudest I've been of a deer was the maybe 105 inch public land 8pt that I still hunted to within 15 yards of earlier this year. It wasn't his rack it was the nearly 50 miles of hiking in the "mountains" over a 4 day period and the work that went into getting him. Turns out

I get wanting big deer and letting younger ones walk. I can think of multiple 130 inch deer that I've let walk over the past couple years on our farm because they were 3.5. I also killed a smaller 3.5 last year because he pissed me off.

I will say the 3 point rule in arkansas has done a lot for our deer herd but at the end of the day shoot what makes you happy. I would rather see someone happy about a spike than a guy pissed about someone shooting a 120 inch deer. I've been both, thankfully I grew out of it.

You know what is even more sad? People browsing around facebook to see what others have killed and passing judgement on them for not following unwritten rules. Then complaining they are posting and bragging for all to see when they really were just sharing their SUCCESS with family and friends.

If Louisiana is last in something like murder rates or education or poverty or corruption that pisses me off.

To be last a growing Boone and Crockett bucks does not matter in a little bit. For one thing, we can grow some really big deer in certain parts of this state. But I think some people like you have expectations out this world. You think your gonna raise huge record breaking bucks on your 30 acres of land you bought and will only “harvest” a 7 year old deer. You are an anti hunter in my mind. I don’t kill every deer I see. I don’t shoot a buck every year. I have only ever killed two bucks in a season twice in my 25 years of hunting. I really wanted to kill a doe this weekend because next weekend it won’t be legal. I didn’t get my chance. I could have shot a couple of button bucks easily. I chose not to.

I hunt legally, on private land and restrict myself further than the law dictates. Perhaps you do to. I know you’re not in my club, so unless you’re breaking the law idgaf about your methods or results. Good luck getting your name in the record book though.

If it’s legal buck then I’m all for it. The guy prolly works his tail off in some garhole pine forest to kill his 1-2 deer a year. Let the guy enjoy himself. And get off Facebook and go drink a beer, Jim Shockey.

I'm all for managing and let an small 8 walk on a lease that shoots everything. Enjoyed watching a hearling run Saturday morning and ran 400 yds to the nearest stand and they shot it. I wasn't mad, it was an old lady and she enjoyed her kill.

Also the process these timber companies is are charging for leases now need to be taken into account. leases around here are 1000 a person I'm areas.

As someone that hasn’t seen a deer in 4 years, I’d be overjoyed for a nice 6 point.

I’ve not been able to hunt very much. Admittedly.

30-60 years ago when many of us learned to hunt there weren’t as many deer, and shooting does was a no-no because you wanted the population to increase. Also, in some places it was against the law to shoot does.

I’m 40 yrs old and the first 30 years of my life it was against the law with a gun. Bow only. It’s crazy how much the deer population has exploded in my area over the last 10 years and people still refuse to bust a slick head. I’ll lay an ol nanny down with a quickness and a young’n to if the need for some extra tender back straps catches me.

Not me. I’ll bust a big nanny with a quickness.

imo if it gets you excited, if it gets you shaking and short of breath and PROUD. Then good job brother.

I don’t care if it’s a button buck, an old nanny doe or a record setting monster. I don’t care if you were spot and stalking in the mountains, bow hunting on public land or sitting in a box stand with heater over a food plot.

If you’re proud of it I’m proud of you.

Quit judging other people’s pride. You’re only hurting the pastime

Look at it this way...you probably look at your old lady like those guys look at that 4/6 PT. They think it’s perfect. Then you get a photo with your old lady on Facebook, and I guarantee there’s a guy going “dannnng put a mask on that thing”. People view things different. Mind your own.

Do you only hunt for the rack?

Personally I never gave a damn about it.

Ironic that he is pissed that someone is proud of a deer and in the same breath is complaining about people shooting young bucks... which is preventing him from riding around and posting picture of a bigger buck that he is proud of.

Trophy hunter dissing someone for being proud of a kill is rich I tell ya' rich! Pot meet Kettle!

When I become rich and am able to buy my 5k acre tract of Anderson Tully land one of the rules will be for guests that you'll have to sit in an open stand. If the deer have to be out in the wet cold then so do you if you want to hunt my paradise. Exceptions of course will be made for those who actually need it.

The sliding tinted glass windowed insulated fiberglass box stand has jumped the shark.

SAD

Thinking like that is what's wrong with the world today.

Are you married to an OT 10? If not then why did you marry her? If so (I doubt it), good for you. The rest of us may not be and that's our choice.

Same goes for these men that are shooting these bucks. Good Lord let people enjoy hunting without trying to push your agendas on them.

If you want bigger deer push for lessening the seasons and reducing the buck tags. 3 weeks of Gun and the rest archery. 2 buck tags only.

Until we do that, Jim shooting that 2.5 year old 6 is going to be your reality.

Screw this. We have way too many deer right now. Time to thin the herd. We can cultivate later.

In Central MS, if your not seeing the good bucks it's because there are too many does and they never have to come out and chase anything. Plenty of real good bucks out there

85% or more of the responses here are still stuck on the 1970's and 80's mentality (kinda similar to how they voted this past weekend...red)

"ill do what I want on my land"
"if its legal im shooting it"
"brown its down"
"ill shoot a basket rack 8 because its one of the 10 biggest deer we have ever seen here"
"I put the time in ill do what I want"
"We hunt for food" no you fkn don't
"state gives us six tags"
"it was a cull buck" BS those don't exist its proven
"that spike is gonna be tender" great you just shot a future 160" trophy
"horns were all messed up and had points all crazy" this is how freak non typical monsters start......

Those above are the exact reason every state that touches our border is killing bigger and better deer. Be you a meat hunter or horn hunter its all the same. The bigger the deer the more meat is on its bones and horns on its head. Ya'll both in the same basket and too stupid to see it. So why not let them get 5 or 6 yo before you shoot them?

Our surrounding states have put restrictions in place for this very reason. And it has showed out! Hopefully we can get onboard with it soon and put Louisiana in its rightful place.

Some of y'all just need to hear the truth. Horn restrictions protect the herd long term and in turn protects most of you from your own ignorance. Much like most laws that are written. In turn we see more mature animals to harvest. Its a win win.
