Gotta put meat in muh freezer, let me shoot this second year 6 point......sad
Some people enjoy eating venison, some like the fact that they can go out and harvest an animal and turn it into table fare for their family, and some like to put animals with big bones growing out the top of their head on the wall as a display of their manhood.

Well, while they're at home eating their deer meat sausage, roasts and backstrap, you're still sitting in the tree stand waiting for that rare in many areas 8-12 pointer to cross your sights.

Agreed. 6 month old spikes are the only ones with back straps

Or some only have a small portion of land to hunt and are happy to even see deer. Haven’t gotten a buck at all the past 4-5 seasons with the flooding events messing up our rut, I would be excited to even SEE a buck not at night on camera
Where are you and how far are you willing to travel?

Out of my 29 years, I’ve seen MAYBE 10 bucks bigger than this one come off of my land. This one was shot last night. Hell, out of the 10-12 club members, nobody has seen many more bigger.
There’s higher ground all around us where people can plant stuff that deer like, and only have a couple people hunting it. Hell, there’s about 200 acres of high ground wooded area that nobody even hunts 300 yards from our pin board. See deer hanging around the tree lines all day long.
Finally talked some sense into pawpaw and implemented a “no spikes” rule 4 years ago. It seems to be doing some good because we’ve been having more 160 lb plus deer being taken. Literally yesterday morning, I let a 6 inch spike walk. No problem, right?. He crossed the property line onto a small ammonia line and an old fart smoked him. Kinda frustrating, it was barely hanging off the side of his back rack.
We shoot one doe a year, trying to build the heard back up after years of outlawing. They’ve all been kicked out and replaced with decent guys. I had 10 does cross me yesterday. But there’s 3 or 4 straight days that nobody see shite.
So you’re damn right I’m gonna bust that 6 point basket rack. That might be the only buck I see this month.
I hunt because I love being outdoors and I hunt to eat baw. No better meal than something I put in the pot my damn self. You come put the work in on my land and then you can tell me what I’m about to shoot. Until then, mind your business or go complain to somebody who gives a shite.

With a toddler and an infant, I won’t be traveling very far, currently only hunting the small family property that we have. I would absolutely love to invest in a lease that manages a herd properly, but I’m not investing thousands of dollars for a couple hunts a year.
I’ll likely make a dozen or so hunts this year, and thoroughly enjoy just being in the outdoors and likely won’t see a “trophy” unless it’s on cameras.
When my 7 month-old boy is older and can hunt, then that will be a different story.

Most of the hunting shows I've seen take place on some "ranch" that has thousands of acres of land and they stock their land with exotics and local game.
Some of those hunts have all the intrigue of one of those "canned hunts".

Last time I checked a doe has meat too
Yep and I get much joy from sticking an old snooty doe.
I'm all for shooting big bucks, but sure as hell won't judge anyone else for shooting what makes them happy. Some take deer hunting WAY too seriously. If you're in a club that has rules, I understand and everyone should stick to it. Otherwise, who gives a crap what someone kills as long as they're not breaking the law.

Green Jeans loves the facebook deer kill bragger.
I know three people who have had them come to their house to inspect the kill from this.

I love it when someone tries to tell someone else what their trophy SHOULD be.

I'm all for putting in some rack restrictions here. I've seen what it has done in Mississippi first hand. That being said, if I pirogue 3 miles then sludge a mile through a swamp with my stand I'm shooting anything that's legal. I'll be proud as al hell because I know how much work went in to it

On Facebook, we will never have a population of good deer until this stupid redneck/coonass mentality of dropping everything that walks. Everyday these 40 year old men are holding up first and second year baby bucks LOOK AT ME I GOT ONE.
SAD
While i choose not to shoot small bucks on my property... people like YOU are whats wrong with hunting today. Let people enjoy hunting the way they do. Everyone is different, and some people are excited about a doe. Thats okay.... who are you to say what they should and should not kill. As long as they are doing it legal, so what. Do what you want on your property, and they do the same.

I don’t post on Facebook but if I wanted to post a 60 lb doe as I was carrying it over my shoulder then I damn sure will.
I’vekilled big bucks in Texas and big leases in MS but to this day the buck I am most proud of is a young 6 point due to the people I was with and the situation.
Funny how some dudes are all about freedom and merica and guns and gubment is evil yet criticize and demean guys for taking legal animals.
