As long as it’s legal and ethical who cares. Dog hunters vs still hunters, fly fishermen vs bow fishermen, whatever the argument is. We’re all on the same team wether we like it or not. We can’t add more regulation to support everyone’s cause.
With that being said, I wish people were more ok with killing does in the south. I think it’s strange that most would rather kill a spike than a 3.5 year old doe.

What really sucks is the area I hunt went backwards and has brought back "doe days".
So it's tougher for me to kill a deer now.

Some of us don't hunt for wall decorations, and when you hunt public land and the majority of gun season is bucks only, it happens.

I would much rather kill a bigger deer just from the standpoint of having more meat. Antlers don't mean much to me. That being said, I killed my first buck this year, and it was a 115 lb spike. But you know what? I was proud of that deer and the meat I put in the freezer. Now hopefully, if I get a shot at another one this year, it will be a bigger one. But who knows...it's public land.

There's nothing redneck or coonass about hunting within the confines of game laws.

I think I’m going to make a fakebook account and post all my small buck kills this year just to piss off the “trophy” hunters!

Two things that get under my skin about people who bash people for killing younger bucks and people that brag on Facebook about killing deer

quote:

animals with big bones growing out the top of their head on the wall as a display of their manhood.

Are you really proving your manhood when most people now hunt over bait or food plots out of a box stand? My five year old son could shoot a deer out of a box stand over a food plot, congrats on hiding in a box that masks noises and movement, that takes zero skill. Go actually hunt, find where the deer are coming from and where they are going, why they are doing it and then execute the kill, it makes it way more rewarding than watching deer come in food plots or stick their nose in a pile of rice bran. The other thing that irks me is when someone is ashamed and calls a deer a meat deer to justify the kills. Your damn right its a meat deer, idc if its a world record or a button buck, they should all be meat deer, a deer is a living creature that is just trying to survive, every deer should receive the same respect for getting its life taken. I get being excited over a monster but dammit you should be excited over every kill and not trying to justify killing a small deer.

Its a terrible thing to be disappointed in killing a deer based on it not being as big as you though it was. Akin to LSU winning a game but not winning by enough so the ranters are all bummed. Horrible mentality to have.

Some of you just need to have your vehicles messed up by deer on the highway and maybe then you’d change your attitude. Too many deer everywhere. Shoot em...

Edit: I will shoot 2.5+ year old spikes to get them out of the breeding population.

as fricked up as LA is, we probably lead the nation in amateur animal husbandry experts. I’m actually surprised that livestock managers spend any money on genetic research when they could just ask the average deer hunter for advice

Not everyone drives a side by side up to a box stand and cooks breakfast while watching satellite tv like you.

Dragging a small swamp buck 2 miles out of the swamp in waist deep mud trumps 99.99% of the hunts going on out there now days.

This is my third season living/hunting in south Mississippi via Texas and I’m just now starting to understand these people. They really do respect the game (mostly) and they are proud of what they kill. The only ones that piss me off now are the guys that shoot 2 year olds and then say “we can’t grow deer down here like y’all”. BS! Lay off the young ones if you’re going to complain about not seeing mature deer!

Don't forget the Mr buddy heater and $350 on "hunting clothing" so he could be camoed while in the box.

This is the most annoying thing I've seen lately. Wussy men needing a heater to go sit in a box stand. I can understand an older guy in his 60s or something, but some of these guys are in their 30s and 40s.

I am convinced that some of these guys couldn't survive in a post apocalyptic world.

We had a strain of bad genetics on our place and had some cow horn spikes on 180 lbs. deer. They weren’t yearling spikes. After shooting a few, there are larger and better racks around. Am I an amateur scientist? Nope. But our method seems to have worked.

My sister offered me her portable heater today. I politely declined.

It probably wouldn’t work very well in this tripod, anyway.

Yea, kill more does than you ever have in the 3 weekends that you are allowed to shoot them

That pisses me off more than anything. It's harder to kill a doe than a small buck now.
