That's a good idea.
Another question, I see alot of the reds " nibble" on the fly and not fully commit. Has anyone ever sprayed a scent or dip there bait in scent before fishing?

If they're short striking, once they start following, start baby stripping pretty quickly. Like 2-3" strips.

, take your time, grab the line, and pull.
While doing this do you still want rod tip in the water until you are positive that fish is on?

Just keep the rod tip pointed at the fish. In the water is fine too. Focus on stripping to set. To practice, when you're stripping and the fish is following, just tell yourself to stripset over and over.
Like I said earlier, I don't see strip setting as imperative for slot redfishing, but if you're eventually trying to catch other flats species, you need to learn. Particularly species that you can't see eat that well, like bones or sheepies It's important to keep the fly in the water until the fish eats. Trout setting will cost you fish in that regard. That's really the best case for learning to strip set a slot redfish.

I haven't forgotten about posting a picture of the Patagonia pack. Just moved and things have been kinda crazy. Will get a photo soon.

Anyone looking to try Airflo Ridge Bonefish/Redfish? I have it on my 8 wt and looking to try something else. Ive used it maybe 10-12 trips.

Ordered a few new tools and other tying items, ive discovered what I like and don't like with the kit I got, so upgraded what I don't like. Getting better at tying, deer hair is still a bitch. Can't tell you how many videos I've watched on YouTube of it. Practice, practice practice.
Did manage to get a little fishing in yesterday, Caught some bluegill on a yellow caddis , bass not so much. If nothing else the casting practice was nice.

Zac, might as well take up trout fishing. I'm sure there are good streams in Ohio. Definitely good streams in West Virginia and Michigan.

In Michigan the salmon should be running or will start very soon.
And Zac - deer hair is a bitch to tie. You think you have it tight enough only to find out after than it's not.

I'm not sure I understand much of what you wrote other than you're selling your stuff. Can you explain why?

too much work for small fish, too much i dont know/understand and most likely this could be my last trip . this was bucket list item for me, but in truth i just dont feel like being bothered with all the bs. dont need lessons to catch pike and i dont need $800.00 of stuff to do it with. my rod/ reel for sale. it is what it is..........

Well it isn't for everyone and there is quite the learning curve. You're likely seeing why we get so much enjoyment out of catching them on the fly - it's the challenge and the hunt that pulls me in. You're right in that a fish like pike isn't usually caught on a fly but you can have a good shot at some monster trout throughout the country. This thread contains pics of myself and several others with some salmon, steelhead, redfish, etc that I think most would agree aren't too small to work for.
Wish I was in the market for a new set up. Try selling it on the facebook group: Flyfishing buy sell trade

if someone local wants the rig, i'll throw in a Columbia fly vest and 6 inch forceps also. if not, will let the daughter do the ebay thing.

Tap the breaks a bit. Those 10" fish are painted by the hand of God. But those 2' trout are, also.
I am a below average fly fisherman, but I've seldom been more at peace than when I've had a fly rod in my hand. Don't give up too soon.

Yeah, but when that trout comes outta no where and destroys a dry fly it makes all the frustration worth it. I'm by no means a good or even average fly fisherman but there's just something about it, working so hard and concentrating so much on making that perfect cast, the world just goes away and then BAM! Fish on.
True you could catch ten times the amount of fish on soft plastics or other lures, but There's something to be said about a challenge.

DR'S have told me not make long term plans. i let my heart run away from my reality. don't have time for a " learning curve " so i'll just stick to what i know and enjoy the best i can.

So sorry to hear about that. Glad to got to take it off the bucket list.

Picked up some beginner gear for the bday. Not new to fly fishing but definitely still a beginner. 5 wt. looking forward to getting more comfortable. I've got some lakes that I'll be bass fishing in but does anyone know any good spots within driving distance of hattiesburg, MS?
