Yes, noticeable imo. Can you get to a fly shop to cast a 10 footer? Just feels different and I'm not sure I can give a great description of casting a 10 foot rod Bc I've only used them to roll casts on the river.

I mean all I've thrown ever is a H2 9' so I really have no idea. Like I said I sold all my shite several months ago because I was broke so I'm starting over right now.

10' will give you a little more control over the line but IMO with limited fly casting experience you'd be better with a 9'. The pros aren't offset by the cons of it being more tiresome. Some may disagree but I find a 10' rod to be a pain in the arse to fish with all day. It's not that they're "heavy," but I feel like they're more work to cast.

I have limited experience fishing with 10', so take what I say for what it's worth.

Okay thanks I'll hold off then. I actually found a guy on microskiff selling a 9 footer for about the same price.

Any of y'all hear about the new Salt Marsh Heron? Apparently it's gonna be a very nice affordable skiff with their new cap and liner and I think it's gonna be a little bit longer closer to 17.5.

Was out in Texas two weeks ago and caught a few this size. I didn't re-tie my tippet before I started fishing and what I estimate to be about a 6 pound bass broke me off on my third cast. Spent the rest of the week chasing one that size but just ended up with these. Still a good time though

Check my edit. Here an email response I got from them.

quote:

Thank you for your interest in Salt Marsh Skiffs - attached pricing. We are OEM for Tohatsu, Evinrude, Suzuki and Mercury. We would be happy to work you up a preliminary price quote, just let us know what all you would like on a build. We are currently working on a new fit & finish Heron. The pan liner mold is completed and the new deck mold is almost complete which will incorporate a bow hatch, two rear hatch compartments, livewell, toe rails and wider deck. I don't have the pricing structure as of yet for the new fit & finish Heron but should be coming shortly as we hope to have the new layout completed in the next couple weeks. Rose

Here's one of the old models I followed. New one will have tabs as well. Good looking boat IMO

I also really like the Grey with black powder coat. Probably be my combo if I ever decide to buy a skiff

You should go look at one of the salt marsh skiffs in person. Make damn sure the level of fit and finish is something you can live with. Cool little boats.

I mean for under 20k you can't expect it to be an East Cape I'm just curious to see how the new one is gonna be.

Fair point. Do you happen to know where they got their molds? I think it's the old Hobie mold. Anyway, variations of that hull has been called half a dozen different names over the years.

Got the new rod wet today on the Davidson river. Managed 12 total - pleased considering the time of year. All fish on combo of brown WB, red hots, trout crack, and zebra midges. I love fishing tiny midges in the winter.
