He has the shop on the right in Cotter right before you get to the river, is that right?
Nice guy. The big streamers in the winter is "usually" most
effective during a shad kill. I have never fished one but you can catch monsters during one.
I've seen fish up there that were probably in the 15-20lbs range. It really is an amazing fishery.
Caught this one last year:

Anybody ever see one of these St. James custom boats?

I would pay good money to watch someone try and pole that thing around all day.

Could you guys help me compile some beginner resources, videos, etc... to post up on the first post so that people can easily access them without feeling pressured to ask for that kidn of help. I know some of the orvis videos are good but I don't know what else is out there. I think we could really help others get into this.
Sorry I am just now seeing this, but this video has helped me more than any other for basic casting. I stil watch it every now and then.

a great list of links for where to buy stuff online. This was prepared for fly tying, but many of these sites sell other stuff as well.

Rosenbauers podcasts are great. Most of Tom's published material and videos, podcasts, etc. are in reference format (i.e. the Orvis Guide to Fly Fishing is in very short chapter form, making it easy reference).

Going to Broken Bow in Oklahoma for the first time tomorrow. I've been doing some research but could always use some help. Anyone have any tips?

According to the Lower Mountain Fork River Foundation website, Tuesday morning, December 22, the Corp of Engineers are opening two Spillway emergency gates 1/2'. This is going to equate to 1100cfs coming down Spillway Creek for an unknown time period.
In other words, I would go somewhere else... Unless you have a ton of experience. There will be some fishable water at this level but it will be difficult to say the lease.

Ugly chaos knockoff.
Also, Barf, I'm ordering my Galvan T8 today. Was torn between that and 3-Tand's TX80 but finally decided on the Galvan. Probably going to put it on a TFO Mangrove just to start out until I can really figure out a nice stick that'll suite me best

Order it from stillwater fly shop. They will ship the Galvans with free fly line. Saves you like $100

Well shite. Looking at their site they're saying Galvan has a new reel for 2016 (the Grip) that has fully sealed the Torque's drag system (which was supposedly pretty damn good). Should I be concerned about the T8?
Posted on 12/21/15 at 12:24 pm to MrCoachKlein
Concerned? No. Not in the slightest. Galvan Torque reels are some of the best in the business.

Just now seeing the links. Thanks i'll get them in the OP for some guys interesting in getting started with it.
I haven't fished in a month and it kills me. Steelhead on lake Ontario tribs has been very bad this year. NY DEC guys are investigating a very troubling, rapid decline in numbers. October and November used to be days where you could haul in 20 fish. Now you're lucky to get more than 5.

Forgot to write a report from my trip to Lower Mountain Fork. The Corps decided to not draw down the lake until after Christmas weekend so I was able to fish normal flow. It was my first time there, and I was really impressed with the river. There were some fish rising, but I was just interested in catching fish so I stuck to a red midge, size 18-20, dropped below an egg. I caught probably around 15 on this in just couple of hours fishing. I broke that rig off and tied on an olive wooly booger and caught a few more, with one probably 19". Of the fish I caught, 5-6 were good sized trout and the rest were probably 12". I'll definitely be back more often. Even though I only fished for probably 3 hours, it really does seem like it's a hidden gem.
I ended up running into the president of the Lower Mountain Fork River Foundation, which funds a lot of the projects that make the river able to sustain trout. He was telling me that they've postponed the drawdown of the lake, but when it does start it may last for more than a couple of weeks and will make the fishing pretty tough.
I left my waterproof camera at home by accident and was hesitant to use my phone to snap a lot of pictures so I only got one of a fish
