Budget?

I use a Pflueger President on a Falcon Coastal 7' med. Never had any problem with the President and that Falcon is lightweight, flexible and durable. And Academy has a sweet return policy.

I just bought a stradic with a shimano teramar rod. I have a few of the teramar now, I like them more than the falcons and st. Croix rods I have had.

I don't use spinning but you can't go wrong with a shimano reel and gloomis rod

I've used shimanos a long time but my dad has a few Penn Conflicts and there is zero comparison. VERY smooth and can cast further than the shimanos we have.

A Quantum Smoke PT or Cabo PT is a really good spinning reel paired with a Loomis or Falcon rod.

I'm not following how one fixed-spool reel (spinning) can cast further than another. It seems casting distance with a spinning reel has more to do with lure weight, line material and line weight than reel brand.

Sure brand new it's comparable, but I'm talking after months of use and the same cleaning after every trip the Penn is way better

The Penn Battle 2000 combo, or even 3000 if you're mostly drowning live bait.

Either way, get an open faced reel.

There's no way I believe that. Cleaning or maintenance doesn't have anything to do with casting distance. Only thing I could see making any difference is the spool lip, but that could only be a negligible difference...at best.

Stradic, cabo, and penn battle are all solid reels

Not buying it either. There are no moving parts on a spinning reel that affect casting.

Cool

Regardless of what yall believe, it's a superior reel. Lighter, smoother, way better drag.

I'm a big fan of Stradic reels. Have 3 or 4.

Just try out different rods and see which you like best.

I love St Croix brand.

Cool.

No one is arguing superiority, though. Just casting distance.
