I honestly didn't know people loved them. Too heavy and not enough wiggle for my liking.

I'm an angler, not a fishermen.
Anglers use baitcaster reels so I have no idea.

I have a penn battle 2500 and 3000 and like both a lot. Got the 2500 as a service gift from work and got the 3000 on clearance so I ended up scoring both with less than $100 invested. I have them on cabellas pro tourney (I think it's the name) rods 7' (medium light fast action for the 2500 and medium fast action for the 3000. ). I use the smaller reel when fishing specs and the 3000 when fishing live bait for reds and specks. I enjoy using both.
