I'm pretty sure you better send the disposition papers.
For everyone's info: Mrs. Couyon and I sent our complete applications in 2 weeks ago. Our instructor told us 120 days average to get the permit now.

you can check the Texas Dept. of Public Safety website for info on Texas CHL
and Texas and Louisiana do have reciprocal agreements
as far as your buddy goes, from what little youve posted I'm not sure he needs to be carrying a gun on him. He can have one in his home, and in Texas, he can have it in his vehicle without a CHL license

Texas, Louisiana establish concealed handgun license reciprocity
Louisianans with concealed handgun licenses issued by their home state now can legally carry concealed handguns in Texas, and vice versa.
Col. Dudley M. Thomas, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, signed a reciprocity agreement with the State of Louisiana through which licensees can legally cross that state line with their concealed handguns.
"This agreement will allow licensed Texans to travel freely in our neighboring state of Louisiana while enjoying the same or similar privileges their licenses give them at home," Thomas said.

I'm a LA resident looking to move to Texas soon so I was just going to get the Texas permit. Is it true though that Texas and LA have agreements so that a ccl from 1 state is good in the other?
Not sure about TX but in Louisiana you have to be a resident for at least 6 months, and it cost $50 more ($175) if you havent lived in the state for 15 years straight. I moved to TN for Nuc Med school 8 yrs ago and had to pay it.
Also, something recently has changed with living in one state and having a permit from another. Some people were getting them online I believe from less restrictive states and using it in their home states. I believe the way it works is, most states will honor other states license, but you have to be from the state that it's issued now. Not positive because I cant recall exactly what it was, but I believe thats it. Maybe bapple will show up and correct me.

You can get a Virgina concealed carry online without taking a class. All you do is pass a 20 question test and mail your fingerprints and a check to their state police. Last time I checked it was valid in LA, but that's been a few months.

I dont believe it is anymore. I think in Nov the gov signed a bill that stopped this and thats what I was trying to remember exactly what it was. I know that was one thing that was suppose to be stopped.

If I understand things, that rule only means that a Louisiana resident can carry in Texas with a Louisiana permit. Once your residency changes, you must get a new permit in that state.
^^^ is correct.

Some states honor others. There is a site for reciprocation (i dont have it handy) - but Texas does not honor Louisiana. Yet.
^^^ This is not.

No because that site is from virginia. They will stil do it but it wont be honored according to my CC instructor. Then, if you have an LA CC permit, they still honor the reciprocity law, but you cant be from La with a Va cc permit. Im just repeating what I was told, but I read something else about it so I believe its right.

You can be from a bunch of state and get the VA non-resident one, which is valid in quite a few states.

What if you've been charged with a felony but not convicted, and have disposition papers to say as such?
That's fine, but the disposition papers need to be from the court if it's a disqualifying felony. However, some felonies aren't disqualifying. It's always best to get everything together and take it down to the State Police headquarters. You can turn it in there and they'll tell you right there if you're gtg.

If I'm not mistaken, Louisiana has a law that if you are a Louisiana citizen, you must have a Louisiana CC permit.
As far as listing arrests, I think it depends on the severity to be honest. I didn't list an MIP I got because it was a pain to get the paperwork and it didn't hold up anything in my processing time in Louisiana. It took 30 days from the day I turned the paperwork in.

How long ago did you send it in. I was told it would probably take 120 days when i turned mine in 2 weeks ago.

December, right before all of this gun craze though. They told me 120 days when I turned it in also. Everyone I know has been getting it around in about a month.

I hope it's shorter than 120 days now. Thanks

I know it sounds like one of those my "friend" threads but it honestly isn't me.
Guy could had an option before court date to pay a fine, take some type of anger class and have charges taken care of but was to lazy to do so.
Sounds like he's considering upping his ante to lying on a federal document.

You are correct. The Virginia CC permit is not valid here unless you are a Virginia resident. If you are from La and get a VA permit its not recognized here. It changed at the end of the year.

This is correct -- Louisiana quit honoring all non-resident permits a little over a year ago (I might be off on the time line).
If you are (a) a resident of one of the states with which La. has a reciprocity agreement, and (b) if your permit was issued by your state of residence, La. will honor it.

So with my NC license LA won't recognize the VA non-resident?
