If hunting Catahoula lake, about 250
50% mallards
20% teal
10% grey ducks
20% Coke jugs
Honestly don't think it matters a lot on species in the lake. Times there will be rafts of 300-500 birds. Times like that I think numbers matter over species.

When I hunt flooded timber I use about 2 dozen or less. This is most of my hunting
Mallards
Greys
Teal
Couple wood ducks

This is my goal for the marsh. More coots, less everything else.

12-18. Mostly mallards and a few gray ducks. No fancy pattern, just toss em out and leave a little hole for the birds to land in. Doesn't really matter if you're where you're supposed to be.

This is about how we do, pain the arse. Would really like to find me a place I could just walk in, and throw out about 1-2 doz, just minimalist approach.

In SE La coastal marsh been running:

14-20 GHG PG Grays
6 GHG PG Pins
2-3 GHG PG wigeon
Occasionally 2-5 GHG PG Mallards
25 Flambeau Water Keel Coots/Game Winner weighted Keel Coots
Mallard hen Wonderduck surface feeder when calm
NO Mojos pretty much ever

Kills ducks good, targeting mostly grays, GW's and few mallards. But we get scaup (dosgris), buffleheads, spoons, redheads, wigeon, etc. routinely as well

Pretty much this for us as well with a few dozen teal as well. Sometimes a few Mottleds off to the side early in the season when they still decoy to a spread some. We also use multiple jerk strings and a couple of Wonderducks sometimes. 2 Mojo teal at shooting time but they usually get pulled after about 30 minutes.
