I like Chey trucks. My second one was an 03 that my son still drives, minimal problems.
Now I have the 2015 Colorado V6, no problems so far and it does what they advertise. If I needed more power, I would have hapilly bought another Silverado.

The 07-13 5.3L is an absolute terd of an engine, like 4.7L Chrysler bad.
Oil Pressure problem is easy fix if the cams haven't completely stripped out, use only Delco filters and 5-30 in high synthetic.
The new ones annoy the hell out of me with the valve tap they have at idle.

Have noticed that at idle. I was concerned but the factory guy the seller spoke with when he called the dealership and brought it in told him it was a trait with the 5.3.
Thanks for all the feedback.

Nice trucks, ride good, quiet, but if you are gonna pull very much, go elsewhere, they wouldnt pull a greased dick out of a lard bucket.
Get the 6.2 and there won't be this problem.

I agree that if you plan on getting an 07-13 GM truck that it would be wise to do a DOD (displacement on demand) delete when buying. If you do that, the engine will run flawlessly for a much longer time. The DOD system is the Achilles' heel of those trucks and I dropped a lifter on my Yukon around 100k miles. Got the DOD electronically turned off but would still like to do the full delete.

That's not valve tap. 14+ models have direct injection so the fuel injectors make a little more noise.

You're right on this one, didn't realize they had gone to DI. Still worrying to hear in a new motor, you don't hear this on all the Kia/hyundai GDI engines. Sounds to me almost like it shifting in and out of eco on the cams to me.

I had a 2000 that gave me 14 years of good service, and now have a 2015.
Wouldn't buy another brand.

I have an 09 with 5.3L with 130,000 miles and counting. Engine and transmission have been bullet proof. I have had to change the EVAC cannister 3 times, door lock switches 3 times and the break sensor on the break pedal. It does burn oil, I have to add about a quart every 4000 miles but it hasn't affected anything...yet. Interior still looks brand new, but I take care of my shite. Oh, and the ball joints on front control arms went bad but I had a leveling kit so that may have contributed to the issue. I'd buy another one.

The second generation of the DOD system on the new trucks does appear to be better. You really can't tell when it's going into V4 mode whereas with my Yukon it would annoy the piss out of me until I had it turned off.
Kind of a side note since it doesn't have to do with the clicking at idle but I just wanted to add that...

Only problem I have had so far is a cracked condenser
A HUGE problem with the 14-17's trucks and SUV's. GM knows about it and refuses to address the issue. Just had the high coolant line crack on mine. It was covered under warranty but the dealership said if it was the condenser I was looking at a minimum of 2 months wait as that part is on a national back order. A quick google search confirmed this.

I had a 2014 LTZ Z71. Glad it flooded and got totaled. All the rocker paint was peeling off in chunks. The valve right after the muffler that gets operated whether you are in 8 cylinder or 4 cylinder mode squeaked bad. The transmission was so clunky. It's like the programmed engine braking was so screwed up the transmission would fight it self when you had to slow down quick then speed back up. Had a bad clicking in the steering column. The rear end leaf springs popped while making tight radius turns. Just a flat out POS. Had only 44,000 miles and I babied it. Now I have a 2016 F150 and it's no comparison. I'll never buy GM again.

I have an '08 silverado with 92K miles. I've had to replace the brake sensor (cruise control) 3 times. The speakers twice. The rear driver side window motor, and the ball joints. This doesn't include the cracked dash and all the little cracked/broken pieces on the interior. I'm also told I'll need a new brake booster soon.
The transmission failed at 83K miles. I hardly ever pull anything and when I do the heaviest thing is a four wheeler.
Its paid for so I really don't want to buy another vehicle but I'm thinking about it because I'm paranoid about the "valve" problem people have with them and having to replace half the engine. I know of 5 people who have had to do this. It hasn't been a completely awful experience but I just don't think I'll ever buy a GM vehicle again.

Had an '07 and now have a new Sierra. Pulled a 5er with both. No engine problems at all. Added oil to the '07 once. Had to replace the front axle thingies on the
'07 due to crap getting in there when the boots got slashed.

I have an '06 with the 4.8 engine. Got 135k miles on it. Overall it's been a reliable truck. Doesnt' pull worth a shite. And I absolutely hate the hump on the floor in the back. That drives me crazy. The only major repair I had to have done was the brake booster and master cylinder.
One day I cranked the engine and pressed the brake. I heard a gurgling sound coming from under the dash. Then all of a sudden the whole truck started kicking. It was like I was riding a bull. Thick white smoke was coming from my exhaust. Craziest shite I've ever seen. Apparently brake fluid leaked into the booster, ate through the diaphragm, and was getting sucked into the engine via the vacuum. I was burning brake fluid in the engine.
Truck still runs though. But I'm ready for a new one.
ETA: Forgot to mention. My check engine light has been on for about 6 years. It's an evap code. Was told I'd have to get something called a "smoke test" done in order to find the leak. But never did it.

I bought a new truck in 2014.
Chevy was off the list quick. First impression was cheap interior and a very mushy gas pedal.
Almost bought a Ford f150 swamp edition, but the sales manager killed the deal with cheese factor 1000. I couldnt buy from him.
I got a Dodge Ram and I have been very pleased since.
I suppose your favorite truck is usually what you grew up around.

I did have to replace my brake booster and a friend of mine did too. And replacing a brake booster filled with brake fluid means you'll need a new master cylinder too. This seems to be a common problem with GM master cylinders.
And for God's sake use some sort of vacuum tool or pressurize the booster when you need to put in fresh fluid and bleed the lines. Let's just say getting air in the lines is not exactly forgiving and you will be shite out of luck.

I have a 2014 chevy. I had to replace something under the dash because the AC would only blow on my feet. That was around 45,000 miles. I have an appointment at the dealer this week because i have paint coming off right above my windshield. Got an area the size of an orange with all paint gone and getting bigger as well as a quarter size spot right next to it. At 60,000 miles.

I drove GM's for about 10 years. It ended with a 2010 GMC SLE sierra. I kept it for about 3 years/38,000 miles. It had the emission solenoid others mentioned changed two times, 3 of the 4 door handles broke off, both tail lights replaced due to water leaks, transmission fill tube cracked, replaced the dash due to a crack, replaced the ac blower motor, developed a knock on the drier's side when you first start it up in the mornings, and when driving slow it could not make up its mind what gear it wanted to be in.
I traded it in on a used F-150 and I've had to replace one leaky radiator hose in 3.5 years/50,000 miles.
oh and my podna bought is old lady a 2015 Tahoe.....it has had the ac problem listed above by other posters and the auto ride system had to be totally replaced. All out of warranty.
