We decided to start making a yearly family trip with the kids to GI starting in Aug. Kids will be 18mths and 6mths, so it will def be limited. Just plan to hang out on Elmer's and let my oldest one play. Me and the wife take turns surf fishing and watching the little ones. Plan on crabbing some too. Besides a small icechest w an airator for live bait, rods, icechest, etc. What are some things that would help? Figured Id set a few PVC pipes and let some bait free line as well.

If you'll be wade fishing, a belt will make your life easier - D rings everywhere to clip net/stringer/hook remover/etc

If you're surf fishing...casting a rod far as hell into the gulf and waiting while you drink, you need some spider weights. They have little legs on them that dog into the sand. You can use a lighter weight compared to a pyramid. They are legit.

I dont know how to take this.....
Yea she grew up in GI and can fish better than a lot of guys I know. Made the cover of LASM once, (duno if that really means much but still pretty cool). Hunts deer, ducks, etc. So i dont have a problem when she would rather spend our vacation in GI every year!! WIN-WIN

Right, they are also called sputnik. I like them a lot. They are more expensive than pyramids, but I don't go through a lot of them.

I've gotten to where I really like using a variation of a pompano rig. Weight at the bottom attached to a swivel and the "leader" is about 6 inches and 16-20 above the weight.
ETA: cast net.

what type/brand of fish basket is recommended? I'll be down there w/ the fam this summer and since I have kids most of my fishing will be in the surf.
also, there's a pink/white mirror lure that's deadly in the surf. is it a top dog?

A manual inflate life vest. They are very comfortable and they don't take up much space. You can get them for less than $75. You never know when you'll get a cramp or get caught in an unexpected current.
