Going to spend 5+ days in the Keys in July, staying in Islamorada.

Probably will just be my 14 yo daughter and me. I may do 2 trips.

Any charter experiences out of there that you might share? Anything really fun, or really boring?

I found info on specific charters, just not sure what I even should be chasing.

We usually go after specs and reds in Cocodrie. Anything other than that would probably be fun for her. She suggests she's in for quantity over quality! Not sure what that says about my guide services.

Last week of July is mini lobster season. That's fun as shite but I don't know about finding a guide for lobstering.

I know a few good tarpon guides but I don't know if it will fit your criteria of high volume fishing.

I second Hog Fish Grill but it is on Stock Island which is a drive from Islamorada. There are places in Islamorada that will cook your catch.

What is a "good tarpon trip"?

1 fish? 2?

I'd love to catch one, but I might prefer to let her catch several of "something".

Would recommend reef/bottom fishing over Tarpon, considering you're with your daughter. Get on some mangrove snapper, grouper, grunts, etc. Also might find some dolphin, but I haven't read any reports.

Know of a guy in Key West.

Not sure what your schedule looks like but I would highly suggest making it down there to the last island at somepoint. I think your daughter would the activities that go on at Mallory Square at sunset.

If you think you may make it down there I can give you the guys contact info down in the keys. Great guy and runs a 27' Conch so should be able to put you on anything from tarpon to snapper to mahi mahi

Look up Kingbird Charters in Key West. He was overwhelmingly recommended and we booked with him. Unfortunately the weather was bad and we had to cancel.

He was very professional during the whole booking and cancellation process.

Have a good trip

Book a backcountry trip with one of the captains at Bud n Mary's marina. You can do 1/2 day trips which would probably be enough for your 14 yr old. If you must do a tarpon trip book an afternoon trip with BnM. Nothing like catching tarpon with the setting sun as a backdrop.
