I get pissed every year this time of year. My damn fig tree is almost all the way shed and looks like crap. And it usually doesn't bloom til late April/early May and starts dropping leaves in late July. I get a nice fully leaves tree for about 3 months out of the year. The rest looks like it's dying or dead.... I don't really care about the figs. Should I chop it or let it ride?

If you don't want figs why keep it.

I have 5 of them. They look nothing like that right now.

Get rid of it I guess?

Or maybe give it another year if it doesn't bother you.

Edit: where are you located? Mine are in Avoyelles Parish.

It bears fruit, it just looks like hammered dog shite 9 months out of the year....

Its only redeeming quality is that it has low branches my kids can climb on.

Had one start acting like that a few years back..... Give it a good prune job in late Jan. early Feb. but for now lime it really good on the ground all around its branch reach but not alot close to the drunk....leave at least a 1ft circle with no lime around trunk....when you prune it in Jan./Feb. also fertilize with triple 8 the same way you limed it....watch that sumbitch get pretty and hold leaves all summer

With 3 established trees around the fig tree, I wouldn't be surprised if its being out competed for water/nutrients. Especially with this dry spell we've been having. I'd prune and fertilize in late Feb.

Fig trees thrive the best with other tress near it for shade...they do not do well in direct sunlight....those tress at those distances look to be great...and judging by the size of the fig tree in general it's done well just needs a boost

That tree has too much going on. Needs pruning.

When colder weather comes prune it back. In the meantime anytime you have fish heads etc. use post hole diggers near the roots and bury your them there.
