The dark green is probably green kyllinga from all this rain...and as far as the seedheads, refer to this thread from a few days ago Seed Heads

Nothing but a nonselective herbicide like glyphosate will actually kill the torpedo, but MSMA sure does burn it back quite well. I went to a seminar by the LSU AgCenter a few weeks back and took some interesting notes about some products they were testing on torpedo. When I get to my desk in the morning I'll look em up and get back to you.

I sprayed some torpedo with msma about a month ago but due to rain I wasn't able to do second app until 10 days later. It burnt it back and I thought I killed it but it came back strong. If I can do applications 3-5 days apart it still won't get rid of it?

It's possible I'm sure, but in my experience all that really happens is it stays knocked back good enough that you don't notice it and when you quit spraying the rhizomes under the surface start producing the grass again. It's a bitch.

Bootlegger

I'm spraying Celsius this week on a bermuda lawn primarily to control virginia buttonweed but also to git rid of some scattered crabgrass. I also have the torpedo grass problem we've discussed before. I've read where Celsius has little effect on torpedo grass, can I mix msma with Celsius to get more kill on the torpedo

Yes, you can. Celsius is actually labeled for use with MSMA as a Dallisgrass herbicide. I've had pretty good knock down on torpedo with just the Celsius.

Hope to be laying the smack on the sedge this week, myself.

ETA: I'm gonna go to my office and look up that chemical for you today. Sorry, forgot about it the other day.

Ok sounds good I think this is the combo I've been looking for for the variety of weeds I have. It's a tiffway lawn that's beautiful but the VB is running rampant with all this rain.

Will get my pre emergents down starting this fall and next spring. Just learning as I go.

Thanks for the advice

Best thing is to get the buttonweed knocked out in the spring with metsulfuron or a three way broadleaf herbicide. Tough to beat it now...it's such a pain in the arse.

Bootlegger,

I am an absolute no nothing on this stuff. Is it too late to put down a weed killer for dollar weed? If not, what should I use? Or would a weed and feed work?

Thanks for any help.

As long as temperatures are below 90°, hit it with a Trimec product. Most local feed stores and co-ops (and possibly Lowe's) will have Fertilome's WeedFree Zone.

Any chance this would work on crabgrass too?

That's a broadleaf herbicide, so you need another route. What type of lawn grass do you have?

In St Aug, it's tough to kill emerged crabgrass. It's an annual, that has to emerge from seeds every year, so pre-emergents are the best option. I'm going to assume you don't have a restricted pesticide license, so your beat best is to just beat it back with Atrazine. Make sure temps are below 90°, and hit it as often as the label specifies is allowed. You can get Atrazine just about anywhere.

I had St. Aug laid in late March. It's grown in well but they didn't treat or fertilize when they laid the sod and I can see some weeds sprouting. Not a lot, but enough for my OCD self to notice.

Anything I should put on it now? Or just wait until fall when cooler?

What weeds? Post pics if you can. May be best to let the St Aug establish before you start hitting with herbicides, but let's see what you've got popping up and we'll make a plan from there.

I've got about 5,000sqft. Only about 5 of these cropping up.
