Yes and you are getting it wrong on terminology, brah.

The bullet never goes higher than the axis of the barrel, physics as you point out would prevent that. After the bullet leaves the barrel there is nothing to support it and gravity begins its immediate victory and the bullet begins to fall - not rise.
