Recently put up a double-decker birdhouse in the back yard and a pair of blue birds moved in. Went to spy on them tonight, and found this monster staring back at me in the upper half (birds are on the bottom deck).
I've never seen a Black Widow with any type of markings on its back, and my first thought was a Brown Widow. I've found quite a few of them around here and they are all light tan with pretty markings on the back, but I've read that they can vary significantly in color, some looking dark brown or almost black. I did catch a glimpse of red on the underside, though it's hard to get a decent view. And this doesn't have that glossy black sheen I've always seen in Black Widows.
Bitch is big, so I'm guessing eggs are on the way. But I don't want to spray since the birds are right underneath, and KIWF is obviously out of the question.
Thoughts?

looks like a widow; check the underside for the trademark "hourglass" mark to be sure.

Birds be damned. Burn it with fire

BTW, if anyone remembers my "Jar of Death" with the two Brown Widow egg sacs I hatched....one of the babies was STILL alive last week - hatched in November, no food, and still alive. I took him up the road and let him go. I figured he earned the right to spawn a race of superspiders.

Looks like a species of widow.
Latrodectus hesperus possibly?

the color is a bit strange, but the shape and look are exactly like a black widow...I would say that is what it is.
all of the black widows that I have seen have been fairly aggressive...poke at it with something to see if it attacks....

This. They don't all show red marks. Burn it with fire.

I haven't had a good look at the underside since he's in the birdhouse, but I did catch a glimpse of some red underneath. I definitely think it's a widow - just don't know if it's a Black with strange markings or a Brown that's very dark.

No red hour glass. It's a false widow you can look it up. It's nonvenomose

This, but will leave a hell of a bite. Smash that sucker with a stick. Hate spiders more so the snakes.

Squish it with a broomstick. Cut it nice and flat and slide it in there and.....SQUISH! You might here a nice pop as well - success!

Suck it out with the hose attachment on a vacuum cleaner... then figure out a way to empty/burn your vacuum cleaner.
