Hunted both and both were epic, but 1983 was deadly, the speed at which the front came through stranding many in the marshes.

I remember hunting 89. Walked half way across Catahoula. I don't remember hunting 83, but I think that was the event that set a 24 hour temp change record for both Montana and Louisiana. It just poured in from the Arctic.

Yes, and the WIND. One of my tribal best friends lost a cousin that day, ran into his cousin and the guy he died with late the night before.

1983 and 1989.

One of these had to have been when North Louisiana was below freezing for like 10 days in a row, I remember riding 3 wheelers on my grandad's pond on the ice.

1983 we rode 3 wheelers on top of sloughs at the camp. Ice was 4-6" thick over 4 ft of water. Yamaha 225 pinned in 5th gear and was moving about 5 mph actual speed, tires grew to about double their normal height

Duck hunted 1983. In 1989 you could dip net trout in Bayou Caddy.

I was a Senior in high school in '89. We absolutely slaughtered the ducks. That was when the limit was 3. I think we were still on the the points system and Mallard drakes were 35 so you could only kill 2 and a kicker. Our buddies dad was one of the owners of Pin Oak Mallards out on Highway 15 East of Monroe and you couldn't fit another Mallard in that place. We were the 2nd shift for almost a week. It was fun but the other owner Ace Cullum wanted us out as quick as we limited because he could be an arse back in them days. It literally took like 20 minutes to limit and there were usually 5 or 6 of us. There were so many ducks they kept the holes open. Then we found a place on the back side of the old reservoir that was being kept open by runoff, which I figured sewage since it stunk worse than Wham Brake. It was technically not on Pin Oaks so we hunted that spot every afternoon. Yes, there were some rules broken and Holy frick it was cold. I think it was single digits highs for almost a week in Monroe. I laugh when I go home for Christmas now and watch the weather because every day the record low was set in 1989 for almost every day.

The only thing I remember about 1983 is we rode a 3 wheeler across Tupwaw Bayou in West Monroe behind my Paw Paw's house. It seemed insane at the time and probably was but that ice was thick.

Hit North La in the morning, never experienced anything like it.

I had a 2 acre pond that froze solid except for a small eddy where three ducks hung out.

My partner fell in Beouf River in 1983, a little north of Three Rivers Campground. The high that day was 15 degrees. He let me out on the bank while he worked on the little outboard motor. He finally got it started and I didn't see him until later that afternoon, in a hospital bed.
He had lost control of the little aluminum boat and went down. Fought his way to the bank. Took off his wet clothes and laid down in some weeds and straw. Realizing this was a bad idea, he got up and found he was on a little island. He then got back in the water and made it to the bank. Now he had to walk across a bean field to hwy 4, where he was picked up and rushed to the ER.

83 hunted that morning and watched it pass, was almost warm and got cold real quick. Went in for lunch and got new clothes on, that afternoon was fun but weather brutal.

'83 brought an ice storm. Ice was hanging off power lines and we were without power for a long time. Bought a kerosene heater to get some warmth in the house along with the fireplace.
