Well, that's the craziest thing I've heard/read all day. Welcome to a lifetime of "random" screenings.

Dang you're lucky. My oldest boy wasn't.

He cut it a little too close checking-in at the Alaska Airlines ticket counter. They couldn't accept his baggage and told him to gate check it.

My boy told the ticket agent that he had a big-arse K-Bar in his luggage to be checked. Ticket agent advised him to declare it to TSA when he got in line.

He followed instructions...got arrested on the spot.

But at least Houston Police accidently-on-purpose "forgot" mirandize him and also sabotaged the report to his benefit.

Yep it may be tuff for you to get a NEXUS/Goes presceen card. BTW nexus is the greatest time save for security lineups but they wouldn’t like a handgun in a carryon

A gal friend of mine inadvertently had per .32 revolver in her purse while going thru TSA. She was questioned, missed her flight and paid a $3,500 fine just a few weeks back.

That's what I'm afraid of now. I'll keep y'all posted if they follow up with me.

This is weird. Last night I had a dream I did this, except on an international flight. Woke up before I suffered any consequences.

Glad you escaped unscathed

As was noted, he probably won't get away "unscathed."

The Feds played "catch & release" because they know where to find him. I'm afraid he'll face some fairly serious sanctions as a result of this, and be on a "list" for a long time.

That sucks.
Out of curiousity, do you fly often? I'm guessing yes because it seems easier to overlook something like that if you do whereas for people that don't fly often it's such a big deal that they go through everything more closely.

Was she told on the spot or was it sent in the mail later? Just wondering how this works for dat yat.

As I understand it she was informed that there is some sort of Federal charge associated with the offense. Some weeks later she learned about the fine. She consulted a lawyer who told her that paying the fine is cheaper than dealing with a drawn out court and legal process.

Almost the same thing happened to my son in law about eight years ago, but it was a pair of scissors instead of a pistol.

My son in law and daughter lived in Nashville at the time. My mother in law had wrapped his Christmas present and inadvertently placed her scissors in the package after cutting the wrapping paper. He had no idea the scissors were in the package.

His story mirrors yours as to the manner the interrogation went down.

I'm sorry but shite like this pisses me off. The second amendment says I can carry a gun. I understand that you can't take it on an airplane and I support that, but for fricks sake people make a mistake sometimes. Particularly when they CC or are avid gun enthusiasts. They should not be FINED for absent mindedly leaving a gun (thier personal property) inside a bag (also thier personal property)

I'm all for the extra searches, interrogations, and being added to a "list" but frick that fine, that's horseshite.
