So earlier this spring, I leaned that 2 king snakes had taken up residence near my house (Eddie and Freddie). My GSP caught Eddie slipping and out in the middle of the yard. RIP Eddie. Freddie however, is looking good these days. He's about 3' long. I've left his home in the brick pile alone so he can do his thing. Well today, he bit me in some tall grass behind my shop. He caught my boot and I'm fine. I have a 1 year old and a wife. They will not be as tolerant of his shennanigans. Last, I saw him eating a lizard; therefore, he has switch to the dark side and is in league with the Mosquitos. FU Freddie!
My question: Can I relocate him to the drainage ditch 400 yards behind my house or will he just come back?
There is a crawfish pond between the ditch and my place.
FTR: He will be located somewhere else on the farm farther away if not.

Yeah...do the neck thing and kill it.

Or just relocate it far away.

Might as well be Alcatraz. No way he can navigate across a crawfish pond...

Once you take Freddie out, another, less lovable snake will take his place. How does your wife feel about Mocassins?

I'm just wondering if the pond will keep him fed enough not to come back. Also, I'll remove the habitat (brick pile)

I would think that moving him and the brick pile would do it. Probably just moving the brick pile would do it, depending on how much crap you have in your yard.

Keep the grass cut better?

Not sure, remove his brick home and relocate may work. Or just don't tell the wife and hope he behaves from now on.

Hard to argue with that logic.

I've been promising the wife for a couple of years that the bricks would become a planter box, so looks like I have to deliver. Freddie will be moved to neighbors barn. I talked to him and he has a moccasin problem. Everybody wins!
FTR: I would keep grass shorter if I didn't rain every frickin day

You actually got bitten by a nonvenomous snake by just walking by? Congrats, that's a pretty big accomplishment. I've been bitten countless times, but it was always because I was catching them. I've never just walked up on one and gotten bitten.

Anyway, good work not killing him.

I was weed-eating. I didn't see him and almost stepped on him.

If you relocate him with his head no longer attached to the rest of him, he will not come back.

Relocate. Kings are very slow movers unlike garters and racers. Like someone said he will find enough prey around the crawfish pond.

**HIJACK**
If anyone knows how I can get my hands on some king snakes to let loose behind my house to take up residence and eat some moccasins, lemme know!

Same here. As a kid, I spect practically every dry, warm day in the woods or on the canal looking for snakes to catch - and never in my life has a snake attempted to bite me that I didn't grab first.
