It was amazingly glossy, like it just shed. Almost looked like a toy, the pattern was so odd for nature.

Yep that's a coral snake, I found a few of them way back when over off of Memorial and Hwy 6 when I was surveying for the Marywood development, pretty snakes

Anti venom still available. I think a pharmaceutical company looked into developing a synthetic type but the amount of snakebites didn't outweigh the costly development.

Kincaid is absolutely full of Copperheads is what a biologist out there told me, he didn't say anything about coral snakes!

So cool.....Went walking through the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge yesterday with my son. At one point I told him, "You know what would be cool, to find a Coral snake." We only found a four foot Rat snake.

Beautiful creature indeed.

Not true. They are an elapide, meaning they don't have retractable fangs, just fixed. They are small fangs, but not rear fanged like a boomslang.

I always thought/read they had fangs in the rear of their mouths. When googling, the eastern coral has fangs in the front. When googling coral snakes in general (many species of coral snakes), some say they are rear fanged. Now I'm confused.

Nope still available and FDA approved.

For about 3 more days...

I'm not sure if they went back and manufactured another lot or where this antivenin was sourced. When Pfizer announced they would cease the manufacture by Wyeth, the original lot expiration was in 2012. In fact, all of the last lot was supposed to have expired on Halloween of 2012 (and that was an extended, extended date). The US was investigating approval of Coralmyn antivenin from Mexico. Perhaps bureaucracy got in the way and forced the manufacture of another lot. Reports on any given year are 4-6 bites with only 1-2 deaths.

I mentioned it because I tried to buy some awhile back but it was too expensive for such a little risk. I was informed that it may even not be produced anymore (2-3 years ago). I carry polyvalent bothops antivenin in a mixing form. It's supposed to work for fer de lance and most other snakes in the area I work in. If a coral or bushmaster gets me, it's game over.

Well that's scary.

That's even worse, doesn't hurt that bad then all of a sudden you can breath

I'm not sure either. The FDA article linked was last updated March 18, 2015. It would be really nice if someone still manufactured it in the US. I would not want to be one of the unlucky few who gets bitten. In the meantime, I would have to have an extremely compelling reason to handle one.
