It was probably a fluke. I don't usually start investigating floating garbage until much later but we just so happened to see this one.
What's up with the 18 inch limit? The 5 fish limit I understand but the 18 inch thing is kind of silly. 18 inches is not a small tripletail.

I'm kind of on the opposite side of that. I like the 18", but I only say that because I used to see this one particular guide come back to the dock with fish that I would've thrown back if they were sacalait. From what I understand, they mature at 12", so I guess it gives them time to spawn.
I don't like the 5 fish limit, but it's better than nothing. I'd be happier if it were 2 or 3 (like MS). If I'm fishing an area like Lake Borgne, and I catch 5 fish, I've a.) done really well, and b.) run enough lines to kinda screw the fishing up for everyone else for the rest of the day. I've tagged a good bit of smaller tripletail, and caught a tagged one last year. Save one particular recapture (that happened to be a fish in that video ), I've found that the small ones are really local fish. They don't move far unless salinity changes, and you can often find them hanging out on the same piece of debris/crab float/whatever multiple days in a row.
I really just wish that LDWF would dump some more money into researching them, because they're one of my favorite fish to target and the science just isn't there.

I want to do that bad, but with my white perch rigs.

Interesting. I've never put more than half a dozen or so in the boat, and that's a split between two people. Maybe we caught 8 one day, but that would have been a rare day. Not a whole lot of those fish were over 18 inches. I guess it's just a geographical thing.

Can you find these in lake P around crab floats?

I think I read the MS biologist study that said they are approx 75% sexually mature at 17". So yeah it gives the babies time to spawn.
They are such a pain to clean anyway, I'd hate to be trying to filet small ones.
Awesome video btw!!!

Ran across an pic from a few years back with a few triple tail we caught a few years back 60+ miles outta GI. One was weighted on certified scale at 25 lbs. surprisingly that didn't make top 10 in Louisiana records. They are quite tasty
