Where was this at? I have never caught a tripletail and would love to give it a shot.

They love the brown/green/blue water rip/grass lines the most, in my experience. So much fun to find, especially with your kids to get them a lot of fish in a short time frame. Helps to "addict" them to fishing.

I'm convinced you know my BIL, mainly based on hobbies and location, but when I tried to show him your recent trip thread all of the pics had been removed.

Haha sorry man. I took them down just to avoid blowing up the area I fished via future google fishermen. Just wanted to share with the OB. Highly likely though. I grew up in Washington Parish and live on the northshore now. I have a Flickr with all those photos and more that I could email you if you want.

He's a huge reds on the fly guy. He sold his Hells Bay last year but is getting another carbon skiff rigged up right now. i figured he would have appreciated your report.

Hell yeah. That's awesome. We try to do it all. I love fly fishing, but I also love trout fishing, perch jerking, etc. There's talk of a Marsh Hen garfishing video .

Nice vid. Im getting after em later this month with the 8wt. Were you using a shrimp fly? Ive seen pictures recently with small crabs in them so I might try that as I have more crabby flies in my box at the moment.

Yeah. I don't find that they're super picky as to fly selection. The most important advice I can give you is to throw something weightless - fly fishing or with a baitcaster. They're kind of a lazy fish, so it's important to keep the bait/fly in the strike zone as long as possible. You can also see in the video that they're really stupid when it comes to leaders, so you can drag it right across their faces most of the time. I wouldn't go out of your way to line them, but they're not like other fish. Hanging a fly on the trap line is pretty much the worst thing you can do, so if the only way you can get them to see the fly is to drag it over them, then just do that and see what happens.

Another piece of advice I can share is to set the hook quickly. They're really sensitive to taste, and fishing them with any artificial bait is tough, because they'll spit it out really quickly. As soon as you see the fish eat, set the hook. You may set too early sometimes, but they're pretty stupid fish and they'll often just go down and come right back up, or eat multiple times.

Been seeing a few in the western estuaries. Picked a single keeper two weeks ago under a piece of cardboard. Delicious little bastards.

Still a bit early for them. We only saw one maybe keeper that day and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have eaten a live shrimp.
