Thinking about heading over there today and sighting in / test firing a few rifles I just built.

Anything I need to know or be prepared for? Anything I need to bring?

Do they sell paper targets there, or should I pick some up on the way out?

Are there people there on duty to supervise things?

Do they have an area with A/C and waters/sodas available, or should I plan on all outdoors and no shade?

Thank you for your help in advance, OB brethren!

make damn sure you check in at the green box in the parking lot (by the boat launch) and have the stub with you. They give out tickets to anyone that doesn't sign in.

They don't sell anything. Bring targets.

no.

All outdoors. I can't remember if the shooting area is shaded. I think it might be.

Simple answer is.....bring everything you need, water, targets, etc. Be sure to check in. No real supervision, however I've never seen any yahoos there. There is a Ranger station there.

Like the others have said, bring everything you need, because they don't have anything around there. The closest stores are in Livonia.

I've shot there numerous times, and have never had any issues.

I think you are supposed to have a fishing or hunting license to use the facility.

Yeah. I think you're correct. Any type of license will do.

That range makes me a little nervous just because they don't have a range master. I've only been a couple times and haven't seen anything bad happen, but I could see some idiot getting hurt or hurting someone else very quickly/easily.

One good thing we did , since there were about five others shooting, Loudly announce or ask, "Range going Hot" or "Range Cold" for the obvious reasons.

I go during the early morning or during the day and usually its only a couple people at the range. Its never packed unless you go around 5pm.

There is portolets, trash cans , and a shaded shooting area. Thats it. Bring everything you need. Make sure you sign the Check in tags. Game Warden gave me a warning once for that.

Not a bad range. If the range is full then usually one of the LDWF agents are at the range. I dont like 15 mofos around me, so I go during the morning.

you've been lucky then. sherburne is where the tacticool stores must direct their tacticool customers to go dump mags

and you get to shoot with this in your face now.

That was put up last time I went. I assume it's to block the sun from your eyes. Is that right?

If you noticed walking to the target there is plenty cases in the grass where the idiots are just walking underneath it to blast shite.

Went today around lunchtime. No Tacticool bros in sight.
One guy shooting handguns, a few other guys at the rifle range sighting in scopes.

Very nice place, very cool setup. I had a blast just messing around for the day.

Yall were right, you need some sort of liscense to participate, hunting or fishing.

Thanks for the tips

I've been to Sherburne before when some genius starts shooting well after "cold range" has been called and acknowledged. It's usually not too bad though but there were a few people yesterday who were sitting at the shooting benches with their rifles in hand and looking down the scopes during cold range. So be careful and watch out for morons because there is no supervision.

Go during the week, earlier in the day and you won't see a soul out there. I've never been asked for my stub or license but I always have it. Also if you don't have a license already and don't plan on getting one you can get a "hook and line" fishing license for $2.50-ish online on the way there. Thats usually what I do for friends that want to go shoot but don't hunt or fish. Krotz Springs is right there if you take 190, I recommend the Boudin from the gas station on the right just after the bridge.
