Anyone ever have river otters in their runoff pond? Saw 4 otters climb out our pond and head off into the woods. We live right by the interstate, and a good ways from any running water. Anyone know how these things may have got to our neighborhood pond?

They travel a long way up any little creek or slew they can find. If they smell something interesting they will bail out and go across some land to check out prospects. Not surprised they visited your pond. Likely came from closest creek from to your house.

I have been told that they will walk for miles looking for a food source. If the pond is stocked, they will eat it down to nothing, then move on to the next one.

OP needs the following:

- Ruger American Rimfire Rifle (bolt action 22LR)
- Super Colibri "powerdless" ammo
- Cooperative neighbors.

Or:

1 steel leg hold traps so you can release the neighbors cat if you catch it LINK

2 some sardines

3 some sticks or cut branches to make a funnel approach to trap.

4. A hatchet to cut a stake to anchor trap chain.

If you catch one the others probably won't be back.

Haha. Yeah, you could release the cat *in theory*. Definitely should document with video.

in practice. Well. Cat will be a little pissy.

and if you act quickly, you can also purchase a brick of 22LR for $25 from Midway in addition to the trap.

Not only will they eat all your fish, but they will make a den in the levee which can then collapse.

If you have a couple in your pond and one of them suddenly develops round holes in its head then the other one will generally leave and not come back.

Some came from the lake once and ate the coy fish out of the ponds at Trey Yuens Chinese restaurant in Mandeville.

Catching a badger

This was a video that popped up next to the bobcat video. This guy is equal parts insane and balls.

Ha. I had to watch it. Dude is crazy.

I've never trapped a badger but they look pretty powerful.

OP is going to have to trap the river otter because I doubt that they are going to let him shoot otters at neighborhood pond if its surrounded by houses on all sides.

Of course he get a can for the .22 and pfttt pfttt and no one would know.

Those theivin bastids will flip the crab traps, steal the bait and head back to the wildlife refuge lickety splickety.

I realize you have a different habitat there, but I don't like em either.
