Remington Nylon 66 Restoration Project

First gun my Dad ever gave me was a Nylon 66 when I was 8 yrs old. I lost it in Katrina and have been looking for a replacement ever since. However the prices for one in good condition are outrageous.
3 or 4 years ago I found a guy selling one for under $200 but it was pretty beat up. I bought it knowing I'd need to likely get a new stock for it and then completely refinish all the external metal components (barrel & receiver cover). A couple weeks ago I came across a stock on eBay in great shape and won the auction for it.
Finally got time today to start stripping the old one and swap everything over to the new stock. Tore it down completely and gave all the internal parts a very good cleaning while I had them all out.
You can see how beat up the receiver cover is in this pic. Old owner had welded a flat piece of metal on top so he could use Weaver style scope mounts on it. I had to grind the welds off then sand them down smooth to the original surface.
My plans are to sandblast the barrel and receiver cover and then paint them with Duracoat in a flat, parkerized green color.

A good wipe with a silicone cloth can make the plastic stock shine like new.
Use loctite on the screws for the front sight.
You could cold blue the barrel and cover with good results if you want.

My first gun ever. Ran over it with my crawfish boat.
Went on Gun Trader or one of those sites and bought a beat up one for $250 and another in very good condition for $400.
Traded the older one for a pump 22 made in 1949 and $300.
I need to sell it, I only bought it to resale....

I want to make it look like the one my Dad gave me. He had dropped it in the Pearl River before I was born and wasn't able to find it. He went back every weekend for several weeks until he found it. Had a gunsmith restore it but instead of re-bluing it he had the barrel and receiver cover parkerized in an OD Green. Duracoat makes a color very similar and the finish is just as similar to parkerizing. I'm going to give that a try first.

I paid $180 for the gun and $200 for the new stock. Will have about $425 into it once I'm all done.
ETA: I'm thinking I can get about $100 for the older stock on eBay.

Good luck, not sure if Cerakote would give you the finish you're after but they have several shades of OD Green.

I have one just like the one the OP listed in his pics -- my dad won a raffle when I was about 10 years old. Really good shooting .22, with just about any ammo.

That was my first gun too. Mine was the black and chrome.

I bought one way back in 1982, and it got stolen a couple years later due to my stupidity. Of course, I was young and dumb back then.
Found one at the last gunshow in Lafayette for $300. The receiver cover was refinished, but looks very well done. And it runs like a champ.
I feel like I won the lottery.

I have one that needs to be restored. Was under water in Katrina. You want to do the job for me? I think it needs a new spring for the trigger.

I think every single Nylon 66 has been under water at one point in its life. Mine has too

After hearing and reading the stories of countless 66's being brought to gunsmiths because their owners couldn't get them back together I'll admit that I was intimidated in taking on this project. But after doing it once I'm confident in my ability to be able to do it again even without using the YouTube video as a guide.
The hardest part is getting the feed ramp into position and holding it there while then installing the bullet stop and spring that once installed, holds the feed ramp in place.
Fish, I'll gladly work on yours if you really want me to. Numrich.com has a trigger spring available. They seem to be the place to go for 66 parts. As far as refinishing, I can't re-blue it but can Duracoat paint it. Check out their website for more info and colors.
