I have a Beretta 686 Onyx that I bought 10-15 yrs ago used. It was $1200 at the time. I absolutely love that gun.

I doubt you can find a Beretta under a grand.

Couple OBers and myself will be heading to SD for couple days of pheasant and duck hunting in November, probably won't be my last hunt like that, and will definitely make a few woodcock trips around here.

I picked up a Franchi Instinct a few months back and it just felt right, but it's a little more than I really want to spend, I don't really want a beater but not really a safe queen either.

Yildiz makes a great gun for that kind of money. Rugers aren't too bad either and I don't think they are much higher than that.

Someone just posted a Browning Superposed 12ga on Louisiana Sportsman classifieds under hunting. $800. Better move fast.

Ok. Google Yildiz reviews, seems to have a loyal following. Should find a forum dedicated to them.

If I was going to buy new today, I would buy a CZ. I love their pistols and have heard good things about their O/U's and they all seem to be less than $1,000.

I bought a CZ mallard 12ga about two years ago. So far no complaints. Ejectors would be nice I guess but that's the only thing I'd change about it. For the price I think it's a good buy.

I also have a stoeger uplander, and the CZ feels and looks like it's made far better than the stoeger. It costs twice as much but it's easily 4x the gun that the stoeger is.

UPDATE: First of all, Wick's an a-hole for telling me to look at guns and ignore the price.

Now that that's out of the way, took his advice and shouldered a couple different guns today.

Cabela's selection was shite in the 20g/28"
Beretta Silver Pigeon
Browning Gold
Browning Citori
Franchi Instinct L
CZ Teal

Stoeger Condor

Still need to see a Stevens and would like to look at a few more CZs

So much for that budget

Gonna have a hard time not buying the citori or silver pigeon now.

I'm leaning towards the Instinct at $1150, a solid compromise, the CZ wasnt bad, but a definite difference in the 3 within budget on new definitely bad, better, great then stepped into too nice range

ETA - heading to Jim's and Bowie's tomorrow to see what's there

I've eyeballed an Instinct before. Franchi shotguns always have seemed like a bargain to me even though I've never shot one. Definitely in a different league than the CZ.

The 48AL is on my short list.

Seems like a good balance of nice and function.

I do want to see how the CZ in the same price stacks up next to it

A friend of mine has a CZ over under 20ga that's far nicer than my mallard. I'm not sure of the model but it's an extremely nice shotgun and she paid less than $1000 for it. It'd be worth putting your hands on before buying. Might be a well built fluke; I've never shot another one. Hers is IMO extremely nice.
