Possibly buying a 2003 Jeep Wrangler

It's a standard and has 60k miles. Anyone has this model? Would you recommend someone buying it?

Things you need to consider
How do you plan to use it and how did they: Daily driver, weekend cruiser, or camp vehicle?
Stock or modified?
Price?
ETA - if it has the 3.7L V6 they aren't impressive

Avoid jeep. Too small and wheel base is too short. There are far better vehicles out there. Last time I owned a jeep the power cord extender got tangled up underneath the clutch and made my brakes go out

That is a good year for the TJ. The 0331 cylinder head fiasco was corrected in the 4.0. The manual trans has been good in all years. If it has the four banger then at least it will have 4.10's.
Good reliable platform. Easy to work on. Fun to drive.
Hot as balls in the summer. Cold in the winter. It will leak.

It's stock 2.4L for 11k. I'm using it for mainly weekends around our camp, but it is about an hour drive to get there. I will probably occasionally use it to get me around town as well.

Rain. The good will leak over time.

Seems a bit high for a 4 banger, but milage is low in a 12 year old vehicle. Should be solid for what it is, but there are cheaper non wrangler options out there just depends how much you want the nostalgia of a jeep vs a camp vehicle

That's way too much for the 4 cylinder. I

Rain mostly but they leak most everything else as well. Especially the 4.0L rear main seal.

I have an '04 that I love. It was $15k three years ago but it has the 4.0. 5 speed. They're reliable. You may have some minor problems but not likely with that low mileage. Mine had 32k on it when I bought it. 20k later and all I've had to do is change the oil and put new tires on it. They're great little fun vehicles. If you're not going to mod it up the 2.5L will be fine. Put some decent all terrains on it for the farm and have fun.
The top won't leak if it is installed correctly. I put a frameless soft top on mine last year. Much easier to put on and off and doubles as a safari/bikini top. I also have a hardtop for the winter but mine is a daily driver. Wouldn't really care about one if I only had it as an extra.

If you're doing any halfway serious mud, stay away from the 4 banger. They just don't have enough arse to get you out of the soft stuff.
Now, riding on gravel roads you won't have any problem.

I'd definitely pass on the 4 cylinder. The 4.0 was one of the best, most reliable, torquey (not a word) 6 cylinders ever. Keep looking for one.
After you buy one, figure out where you'll park it at your house and put a large pan under the engine (where it mates with the tranny) unless you don't mind an oil spot on your driveway. They all eventually leak oil (just a drip)

Yeah, that price is way too high for a 4 cyl that old. I don't think the miles actually make a difference. We have an 06 Rubicon with less than 20k miles sitting in the garage because the price hit is there whether the miles are low or not. It just doesn't make sense to sell it. They're fun vehicles, but I wouldn't make one a daily driver. Everyone I know who has ever made it their primary, got tired of it within a year or two and sold it.
I would move along on this one. It sounds like they are bumping the price for low miles, but in my experience, it makes little difference...at least not that much.

if you will leave it at the camp, the 4 will be fine. if you plan to drive it much, you will not enjoy the 4 at all on the road. Check out the Jeep place off of I-10 on the North Shore.

I just looked at his prices. It's unbelievable. 10k for an 06 with 200k miles and a Dana 35.

I know they been around in Jeep vehicles since at least '03 couldn't remember whixh models are in it.
Getting rid of the 4.0 I6 was dumb.

Go 4.0 or go home. You'll regret the 4 banger down the road. It's greatly underpowered.
