Anyone ever had this problem? This past weekend in GI we probably lost nearly 10 fish to Porpoise. That is by far the most I have ever seen down there

I have not seen that...damn sure seen the fish quit biting the minute they enter a pond, though.

It was crazy, we ended up moving 3 times because of it. The boat next to us threw back a 11" trout and that porpoise blew up on it on top of the water.

I had it happen to me at grand isle about 10 years ago. Had to reel your fish in as fast as possible. I reeled one in and held it at the top of the water and a porpoise came up real slow underneath it and my dad whacked it with his pole. They didn't take any more fish after that

It's a good problem to have and makes for a good time. My only concern is one taking out my knees. They get so close going so fast.

Had it happen years ago in Grand Isle as well. We had to get the specks on the surface and skip them all the way to the boat to get them in. After we threw back a few small ones the porpoises starting waiting by the boat when we reeled in a fish. If they were too small when we threw them back in the water they would demolish the specks as soon as they hit the water.

No porpoise in the gulf, all dolphins.

I take my Hobie offshore in Pensacola. Dolphins can ruin your day, there is no way you can get away from them. They will eat every fish you hook. It's a PITA.

About this time last year, I saw more dolphins at MRGO rocks than Ive seen in my life combined. It was several hundred dolphins. They were clearly targeting boats for scraps and it was a race to reel in trout.

Bunch of people in this thread are tripping on acid if they are seeing porpoises.

We had to skip trout across the top of the water to get them in the boat. It was fun playing keep away but they got a few from us. Major PITA having to re-tie a leader or cork when you're in the middle of a school of trout. A few years back I literally pulled a nice trout out of a Dolphins mouth. The fish had scrapes all over it from the Dolphins teeth.

A good way to run off the porpoise without hurting them is to tie a heavy led weight on the end of a fishing pole and cast it directly at the mammals. Saw this in Punta Gorda. Our guide did it and they vacated the area with the quickness. You won't get arrested for it either.

Last year in the Caminada pass my son caught a trout and while reeling it in a dolphin smacked it and my boy hooked it, when he set the hook and that dolphin realized it was hooked he spooled that line in about 5 sec! Had to holler at my boy hold the pole, but don't touch the string!!

Trout bite typically stops as soon as the Dolphins come in, so F em. A few years ago I hooked one at Timbalier and it spoiled me in a quick few seconds. Wasn't sure what it was until I saw it going full on Flipper jumping out of the water. Pretty unusual thing for me.

We had this happen out at the rocks last year. We'd try to throw them on the opposite side of the boat. Cool to see the porpoises that close though.
ETA:
People are saying the trout quit biting when the porpoise moved it . This was not our experience.

This exact thing happened to us in GI as well. We caught so many 11in trout to throw back that the porpoises would let us catch them, then ease up to the boat so we could feed them by hand. I swear one of the females even rolled over and "presented" to us.

I have the opposite experience. Every time dolphins show up, all fish leave. Usually, we would be catching fish and then the bite would stop. Within a minute we would see a dolphin or two breach nearby.
