Outdoor CSBs

So that things like deer getting another breath of Got Damn air and frying pan kills won't be lost.....

Arrow #1 hits vine and deflects into deer's hips. Deer begins crawling on front legs through palmetto.

I climb down and sneak through palmetto after deer that moves every time I get close.

I manage two more poor shots. Deer looks like pin cushion. Back straps likely ruined at this point.

Deer swims across 5' deep 15 yard wide slough. Gets hung up in cypress knees under huge tree.

I retrieve arrow #1(I'm out) and take a shot across slough. Deer makes horrible noise. He now looks like a bull near the end of a Spanish bull fight.

I find a way around slough to deer. I fashion a spear out of a gerber knife and sapling. Poking a hole in chest does not work well. Deer is staring at me.

I take knife off and decide to slit deer's throat. Grab antler. Deer jerks free with such speed and force that I expect to see my fingers flying through the air like the picture on the trolling motor bracket.

Deer has had enough of close combat and begins swimming down middle of slough toward huge brake. I fear he is gone forever.

Deer gets caught in buttonwood and either drowns or water fills holes I've made in body.

I get down to tighty whiteys and wade out to deer. Slough is covered in duck weed and it's January. It is now two hours after shot #1.

After cutting off all 4 legs and field dressing, I drag deer over 1 mile to parking lot. My legs are cramping so bad I must walk backwards for last 1/4 mile.

Get to friend's camp. I am covered in mud, blood and duckweed. He had no hot water. We boil water in crawfish cooker for bath.

Thank you for not letting the meat go to waste. Lesser men would have given up at the slough.

I posted this in the other thread. If you ever doubt humans are predators, get yourself in one of those situations. Something kicked I never felt before or since. I was getting that deer. It was almost as if I had no control over my own actions.

re: Outdoor CSBs
Deacon started a thread yesterday with a story about killing a buck. After a lengthy post, he ends it with "oh yeah and :cbs: not knowing what he had done.

We hound him with several posts and finally sees he spelled it wrong. So chadboy says that's a cool buck story and deacon laughed it off and didn't edit.

This thread can not compete with the first one. We all had some nice stories in there, and yours was the climax. Anything we post after this is just a waste of bandwidth.

Should I start a thread on the help board asking why?

Do those questions ever get an answer? Can the admins revive it?

re: Outdoor CSBs
When I was about 12 we hunted in the hills of Fort Adams. I shot at a doe with my 30-30 and shot low and forward. I found blood, so we got about 6 guys and went trail. Every time we got close, she'd jump up and run off. It was at night so didn't have any guns. She finally got winded and we caught up to her, but she wasn't dead. We tried hitting her with maglites and logs, but she kept going. Eventually a guy jumped on her back and slit her throat with a little 2 in Case knife. After twisting my ankle in a hole and rolling down a hill, we finally pulled her out of a gulley and got her back to the camp.

I had hit her in the front legs, both of them, and shatter both of them at the knees/elbows. At a young age I realized how important shot selection is.
