re: On my way to Searchers 4x4- UPDATE: Death Wobble cured

Did you try flooring it?

Only a trac bar bushing? What about the ball joint on the other end?

Still waiting on some parts that should be in tomorrow or Thursday. It gets worse every day and makes me a nervous wreck on my 90 mile commute.

90 miles? Hell of a commute with a wobble.

re: On my way to Searchers 4x4- UPDATE: Death Wobble cured
I've been battling it for a couple months. Nowhere near as bad as it originally was. searchers replaced the draglink and I replaced the ball joints. The ball joints were completely shot and everyone missed them (2 tire shops and initially Searchers) although they are the ones who pointed me in that direction.

Currently I believe it is a out of balance wheel (doubtful) or a shot tierod (hopefully). New rims are about to be ordered so a HD tierod will fit.

Yeah it's BAD. I pull over on the shoulder at least twice each way.

Like I said, just go ahead and replace all joints and steering stabilizer up front. That shaking is rough on ball joints and you might as well start with a clean slate. If not, you will probably be facing the same problems further down the road

Fwiw Bourg, What size rims/tires are you running? Don't remember if you said.

I'm gonna order a new SS next week. They said my ball joints look good, so I'm gonna wait and see how everything is after this and decide on that after a few weeks. Preciate the advice

Unless 4WHLN speaks up I have an extra SS that you can try/have. It is a Teraflex one.

I can give you a part number and see if it matches the one you were going to order

To check ball joints, jack up one side, grab it at 12 and 6, and wiggle it back and forth. Any play on either side means either upper or lower is done. To check which one,get under it while you are wiggling it and see what moves.

That is just a crude way of checking

You can get a SS for like $30

Ball joints are a royal PITA to change on some vehicles.

Mine were quite the bitch.

Yeah, I'm not all about dissembling the hub and all that bull shite if that's what it comes down to. I've wrenched on this thing enough and refuse to do anything else myself.

Didn't have your purse?

Aren't they just pressed in? You could've just rented a ball joint press from auto zone

I have seen this work, for whatever reason, mine didn't show this way. Took tons of video and never saw it until I had the spindles off.

First you have to separate them off the knuckle with a pickle fork which sucks ass.

They're riveted in.

You have to drill them out, chisel the head off, drive the bottom out with a drift pin, and then beat the joint out. It's a PITA.
