200 yards is not a high percentage shot. Probably shouldnt have taken it. That's just as unethical as shooting for the head and clipping the bottom jaw off.

If it was a high percentage shot for him, the deer would more than likely be dead, no? Yes, he had a modern fiream...and he missed. What does that tell you?

I'm the worst rifle shot on this board. That's a promise, and I can make a 200 yard shot.

Of course. I can too. It's not about whether you can make it, it's about if you are sure you can make it 10/10 times. Can you? If not, then dont take it. He wounded a deer on an iffy shot.

he may have fatally wounded on a good shot. Just failed to recover.

what caliber and bullet was used btw?

Did he say he misses the majority of them at this distance? If so, that would mean it wasn't a high percentage shot. "More than likely" means there is a mathematical probability he doesn't make the shot, which is what happened. Sometimes shite doesn't work out. Doesn't mean you should bash someone for trying.

Just take off running at 200yds and let him shoot at you if you are confident he shouldn't do it based on his capabilities.

No one can say for certain they can make a shot 10/10 times. Too many variables are involved.

My range with a compound bow is 45 yards. I know this because I shoot alot and I am confident at putting 10/10 arrows inside of about a 4" circle. I will not take a 55 yard shot because my circle opens up substantially beyond 45 yards. If someone is confident at 150 yards but iffy at 200, then they shouldnt take a 200 yard shot. The result is a wounded deer in this particular case. Of course sometimes shite doesnt work out, that's true with anything in life, but dont decrease the odds.

Can we get back to bitching about deer hair color.

200 yards is not an iffy shot. You hunt long enough, things happen. You try to recover every one you shoot at, you try to centerpunch every one. It doesn't work that way.

With any luck the deer got his freak on and he can shoot his offspring in a few years. And so it goes.

BTW...I think this deer will be found if he can find a track dog. Much more confident in the gut punch than a lot of the bad shots.

Why cant this be your observation for the OP and his scenario.

So, you have never missed or wounded a deer inside 45 yards? I know guys that tear up arrows at 45 yards and they have missed plenty, but they hunt a lot.

A deer can do a lot prior to the arrow arriving at that distance. If you are saying you are 100% confident on 45yd shots on a whitetail, you are either lying or delusional. Either way, from now on your comments should come with the disclaimer of "This is from the man who kills 10/10 deer at 45yds with my bow."

Uh yes,

white not off white or light tan.

It's bright arse white under the brown. The individual hairs are more than 80% white with brown tips. Have you ever killed a deer?
