I have been told by some old timers that all deer hair is white, It's just the tips that are colored. So when you look at hair laying on the ground it always looks white.

Ill go get some and clean it then look at it.

Peel back the body hair of your next dead deer and see what it looks like.

Normal deer hair a mix of brown, black, tan, and white. The white is only in the areas you see white.

You'll see white on white hair on the bottom of the deer and brown/white on the rest. So if there is really white hair on the ground you hit it low. Fool proof

I peeled back 2 this weekend. If you're saying a pile of really white hair on the ground doesn't indicate a low shot than I don't know what to tell you.

Nothing to be confused about. Next time you kill a deer pull a wad of belly hair off and chunk it on the ground. Tell pull a clump off higher up on the deer and chunk it down. What you will have is two different color hairs laying on the ground. One from the belly and one from higher up

Also not good if you hit one of these low and the hair is white.

This. When you hit them in the belly sometimes it looks like someone took a pair of shears to the deer there's so much hair on the ground. Never seen a giant pile of grey/brown/black/mottled/whatever color Alx says it is hair on the ground after a shot. Not saying it doesn't happen, but from my experience a lot more hair flies off a belly shot.
