Sodium Nitrite?
Pretty sure it is sodium nitrate Washington Post about Wild Hog Poison
I found this from last year, it says that the salt product causes a reduction in red blood cell count causing the pig to lose consciousness due to low oxygen intake and will die within 30 minutes, not sure if it is the same as what they came up with

It's a specific poison which hogs are sensitive too because of their inability to metabolize. Doesn't last in the food chain or hurt scavengers.

Because of sodium nitrite's high level of toxicity to swine (Sus scrofa) it is now being developed in Australia to control feral pigs and wild boar.[20][21] The sodium nitrite induces methemoglobinemia in swine, i.e., it reduces the amount of oxygen that is released from hemoglobin, so the animal will feel faint and pass out, and then die in a humane manner after first being rendered unconscious.[22] The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department operates a research facility at Kerr Wildlife Management Area, where they examine feral pig feeding preferences and bait tactics to administer sodium nitrite.[23]

I just spoke with the folks at Kaput. The bait is a Warfarin poison. While they do have approval from EPA they do not have the product in the field in any states. She said it would probably be late summer to fall before the product clears all legalities for state approval.
It does require a special feeder and "training" of the hogs to use said feeder.

Its souped up rat poison is all Kaput is. People been using it off an on for years. problem is it kills EVERYTHING that eats it. and as of the last decade or so is harder and harder to find in large enough quantities to me effective unless you buy every pack of rat poison tractor supply and your local feed store has and mix it right.
We been using sodium nitrite for years works great and coons and other animals will not touch the stuff. Occasionally a coyote will get into it. But that's an added bonus.

I hope not. That's bad news for scavengers.

Tannerite seems to work well

Deer are able to digest the chemical
Article says that you need to use a special feeder that hogs are only able to use.

How are they going to "pick up on it?"

What does a hog do? It eats, and eats, and eats. It aint picking up on anything but eating that poison, out of that there feeder. I hope this is able to wipe out 98% of the hog population but thats wishful thinking.

I understand the hog problem
But it's just against my upbringing to poison an animal and waste it.

Agreed, i dont know if i wouldnt rather wild hog than deer meat to be honest, you just have to be careful because cleaning a hog with any cuts or anything on your hands can cause some problems due to the bacteria they are carrying around now. Had a biologist come to the camp the other day to look at some jaw bones in Mississippi and he said you couldnt pay him to clean and eat a hog with the things that they carry, i say screw it either put some gloves on or if it is your time to go anything can happen

I do love eating hog but I do not love to see native species hurt due to the invasive pig.
They also devastate nesting turkeys, root up many viable food sources for the native game species also

I agree 100%, they also root up the levy and fields in the spillway destroying farmers crops, hopefully this works cause they can definitely run some deer off. I just wonder what the woods are going to smell like with dead pigs every where. I will say this after turkey season i will do my best with some dogs to kill as many as i can

I would have to see that to believe it. A squirrel can figure out a squirrel proof bird feeder with quickness and turn it into all they can eat buffet.
