2 decent solutions:
1. Put a bounty on them like we had on nutria rats in the early 2000s (I paid a lot of bills in college with those tails)
2. Mandate that homeless/men's/women's/orphan/refugee shelters can only serve feral pork. Heck, even add it to the Starving African Children's program while we're at it. Feed the entire world's hungry on it.
We do these 2 things & feral hogs will be gone by 2018.

Good idea about feeding the hungry
Nutria bounty is still ongoing though
they haven't come close to eradication

I read that you have to kill 75% of wild hogs just to stay even. Think about that. You have to kill 75% of the wild hogs you find, and that's not putting a dent in the numbers.

But Strain cautions to “be sure and follow all label instructions” when using the bait.
I can see this being a big problem. You can't count on people to load the feeder, or even buy a feeder. They'll just throw the bait out on the ground for any critter to eat.

Valid point. Maybe the wildlife and fisheries people should get involved and levy fines if people do this.

It has the same active ingredient as blood thinners people take, warfarin. It takes a few days to kill a hog, but as soon as it gets in the bloodstream, it turns the fatty layers blue. If you don't want to eat an infected one, it will be obvious as soon as you start to skin it that it has eaten the bait. I am still researching details but I don't think it would be much of a risk to eat one with small amounts in their system.
According to the Texas Ag Commissioner years of testing prove that other wildlife, or pets, “would have to ingest extremely large quantities over the course of several days” to get sick.

The instructions with the product require feeding a similar, safe bait, for a few weeks first to condition them to the feeder, etc. then slipping in the poisonous bait for a few days once they are coming in good. This will also prevent them learning as fast what it was that hit them.

LSU is workinmg on a Sodium nitrite bait but it isn't finished yet. It has been tested extensively in Australia but not used here yet.
This one is warfarin based.

Cyanide trap kills family dog
Not exactly the same thing, but unintended consequences of trying to control predators.

Except, feral hogs are invasive species, not predators. There is a big differencd between the two.
Predator control gets out of hand and can throw an ecosystem out of balance.
If feral hogs go uncontrolled, they can destroy an ecosystem. They need to be wiped out. They don't belong here.
