Going down this weekend. It has been a very long time since I have done this. Artificial? Live bait? Any reports. Access to the area? Does fishing the tides make a big difference? If so, what tide is best to fish?Literally any and all helpful tips are appreciated. TIA

Stand on the beach and cast into the water.

Do not try to launch a boat from the beach. Go to the Friends of Grand Isle Facebook page to see what some genius did yesterday.

Two clowns did this in front of me a couple years ago. Ran off the fish I was catching, nearly sunk themselves, and proceeded to burn through live shrimp without catching a keeper. Still pissed.

To the OP, live bait or artificial will work. I generally stick with artificial because it's less of a hassle.

I'm out there a lot. I also catch a lot on the side of the road. Can get some pretty big trout on shrimp under a cork. If they aren't biting then move. Same thing with the roadside. I've been tearing up some flounder this year too. Just drag a shrimp along the bottom.

We caught a 2 man limit Sunday morning by 930am, started with live shrimp under cork then once we got going they hit everything, vudu shrimp under cork, H&H (Opening Night/Chart), even Redfish magic spinner baits. We were about 1/4 mile west of pass, about 2 cast from the shore.

link?

OP - live shrimp or croakers or mirrolures and topwaters are your best bet. Incoming tide is best, be on the beach fishing as daylight breaks.

Don't go out as far as you think you need to. A lot of times the fish are right in front if you and you are casting past them. You have to find the sweet spot.

Latest LA Sportsman has a big write up on Elmers. I'm sure if it hasn't been busy it will now.

Yes, we made the corner out the pass to the main beach and about 1/4 mile down idled in. We wet our first line at 7am, by 930 we were done!!

It really is such a large area that it isn't too crowded. At least last Sunday wasn't bad.

I'm really just going to see what the hype is about. I'm not to fond of wade fishing in grand isle. I've caught more off the side of the road in my waders.

For me, it's a totally different type of fishing challenge than fishing from the boat or the road. Something about being in the water, just you, the gear you can carry and the fish, as the sun comes up and bait splashed around you... can't beat it.

I counted 61 trucks from our position in a boat last Saturday. Probably 4x that I couldn't see.

What's the surf look like on Elmer's? I want to try and launch my Hobie from the beach if the waves aren't too bad.
